The photos from the 2016 Maryland Dancesport Championships released at the TimeLine Media proofing site! Firstly, I want to thank Amanda and Ilya Reyzin for inviting me back to photograph their event. Last February we went to the BWI Marriott in Lithicum, Maryland. Certainly not affecting the dancers at all, it was an easy venue for us to get setup.
Since this venue was so close to home, we caught up with many familiar faces this weekend. Likewise, they performed to our cameras since they recognized us. So, we made as many good photos as we could!
Busy Weekend
Overall, we are confident we got photos of everyone that danced this weekend. However, I am sure I misplaced some dancers when sorting them by folders. By all means, please send me an email ( rassi at timelinedc.com ) to let me know, and I’ll correct it asap. Thank you!
This coming Monday, the 2015 DC Dance Challenge photos will be removed from the TimeLine Media proofing site. Following the posting of these, we received a lot of traffic on the site. Thank you to everyone that made purchases of digital download and prints from Jennifer Bonini’s event! To see all the photos, please share the link below:
When it was fresh, I posted about this competition when the photos were released. Held at the impressive Ronald Reagan Building right near the power centers of Washington, DC, makes this an appropriately named competition. At the end of the 2015 DC Dance Challenge, we were treated to performances by two dynamic professional couples.
In addition to judging competition heats during the day, Manuel Trillo and Anna Belyavtseva put on an American-style dance collection of routines. Their sharp lines, and quick movements gave the dancers in the crowd something to aim for as they continue their dance studies.
Additionally Rosalia Gasso and Alejandro Barrientos performed Argentine Tango. As can be seen in their photos, their shows were a showcase of strength and speed. During their shows, Alejandro would do lifts so effortlessly. Whereas small kicks are a staple of Tango, I encourage you to find videos of these two performing. The speed at which they perform these have to be seen live!
Finally, thank you to Jennifer Bonini and the volunteers from Forever Dancing! Even though they had a lot of familiar faces at their competition, they treated everyone like a first time guest. We hope to see you next year!
Last Saturday, we photographed the 2015 That’s Dancing Winter Showcase in Columbia, Maryland. Marielle and Carlos hosted their dancers and their friends for the entire evening with dinner and dancing. In order to see the photos from the event, you can click this link below:
This time, they had a beautiful holiday-theme red curtain as a background. At first I was not sure if this would work for the photos. Given that is becomes much brighter in my strobe flashes, I thought it would be too similar to the dancers. However, I think it worked nicely!
Overall, red is a color that pops from digital camera sensors. Although that is usually a good thing, I was worried it would overwhelm here. However, I think it worked very well! Being that it was the holidays, the red fit the event theme, and it was a complimentary background to many of the dresses. Thanks to Marielle and Carlos for inviting us this year!
