Arthur Murray Spring Freestyles Expiring

Westfields Marriott

I suppose that the main reason that photographers start blogging is to share their photos online. Secondly is to attract more visitors that will hire you to do more projects! That being the case, I have been very busy that last few weeks, and I have a lot of photo management and processing to do. Unfortunately, the blog is what has gone to the back burner, and I am consequently feeling VERY guilty! I apologize to those few of you that stop by to see what I am up to. Rest assured, I have not had any drastic changes, and I still plan on keeping you updated here on my photography projects.

Spring Freestyles Expiring

Today, the post has to focus on this being the last day that you can view and purchase photos from the Arthur Murray Spring Freestyles. The DC Area studios gathered at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA for their first big event of 2014. We had previously attended an Arthur Murray at this beautiful hotel as students, but this was the first time we photographed a ballroom dance event there as the official photographers. We assembled a great team of photographers and helpers that made sure we could capture as many dancers as we could over the two days. To view all the photos from the event, please visit the proofing site here:

At the end of the event, we came away with some great photos of the professional shows! I really had a great time playing with these photos. If you remember, we had a Facebook voting contest with images that I treated with a distressed-retro look. I think it was a good combination with the kinds of images from the shows. I am currently working on the next set of professional shows from the Summer Showcase. That will be next on the growing to do list. Stay tuned!

Tysons Corner Center – the Plaza

Just another quick post today – it will be a busy few days at the Tysons Corner Center. I will be there to cover all the activities! For those that live in the northern Virginia area, Tysons Corner has seen lanes expanding on the freeway. Also, we have railways snaking above the roadways, and tall buildings rising into the sky.

This weekend will be a big milestone in many of the projects for the area. At this time, will be the opening of The Plaza that extends out of Tysons Corner Center. I got a sneak peek into the place, and can tell you it will be a great space for families, shoppers, and business people as they pass through the area. Since this is just the beginning, it is a great blank canvas for events.

When there are no events going on, it will be a nice spot just to enjoy the outdoor weather. During sunny days, they have overhead protection from the sun above the benches. Likewise there are gas heaters around some benches during colder months. If you will attend any of the festivities this weekend, and I think you should – stop by and say hello!

Happy Birthday!

We are planning another birthday celebration for my mother tonight! She has been very busy lately, and it can be tough to keep up with her schedule. Last weekend, she was a sponsor at a wedding that I photographed, so she was in many of the photos. Since I am still working on those images, I have not found any with her from Saturday, so those will have to wait. It’s a good thing, she has been a prolific photographer and photography subject for a long time!

Recently, I have had many of our old negatives scanned into digital form so that we can catalog them better. They were just sitting in drawers around her house and garage, and no one has seen them in a long time. It is time to really get them into a format that we can view and share them. I suggest that you do this while you still remember who is in these frames.

Just like with society at large, the number of our photos has exploded with digital technologies. But even in the film days, my parents were prolific shutterbugs. There are negatives, prints, and slides all over the place. I may never get to all of them, but it is worth the effort to try. There are so many great ways to share them online. It is not just your memories that you are sharing, it is so much fun to add them to the collective of your friends. This has been my favorite part of social media, and it probably fuels my photographic inspiration in my job. I feel like I am adding to personal histories, and I hope that my images will last at least as long as my family’s images. They are all worth preserving!
