Jacquie Lee at Tysons Corner Center | Music Photographer

Last Friday Jacquie Lee performed at the 94.7 Fresh Artists Concert Series at Tysons Corner Center’s new Plaza. Again it was a beautiful evening to hang out and relax outside to listen to some live music. The organizers really lucked out over this whole summer with the weather. The elevated plaza is a great place to view sunsets, and to catch some nice summer breeze. I think the tall buildings have something to do with it! The stage is setup perfectly to take advantage of this, and the performers seem to enjoy the space as they have sounded great. The nearby buildings also make for some great reverb that they can take advantage of with their voices and instruments.

The last performer in the series was Jacquie Lee – the runner up of Season 5 of “The Voice” on NBC. She has a very powerful voice that she displayed in all her songs! Her accompanist played the guitar and keyboard depending on the song selection. She sang some familiar songs as well as some originals, but they all resonated with her strong voice. Getting to meet her beforehand, it was surprising to see so much talent from someone so young. She was enthusiastic when meeting the fans and speaking with them about her time on TV.

It was a nice night to close out the summer concert series. I had a great time covering these, and I want to thank Tysons Corner Center, Macerich, 94.7 Fresh FM, and Intelsat. They put in a lot of work to making all of these run without a hitch. I am sure next summer will be even better, and I hope to be invited back to see those!

Andy Grammer at Tysons Corner Center | Virginia Music Photographer

Play on the Plaza

Last Friday was another beautiful evening at Tysons Corner Center. On this occasion, the 94.7 Fresh Artists Concert Series welcomed Andy Grammer to the stage! He came and sang solo with just his guitar. Additionally he did some beat-boxing / mouth drumming thrown in. It highlighted the great reverb in the space between the large buildings around the Plaza.

If you listen to pop music radio Andy Grammer will have a familiar sound with his tracks getting a lot of airtime including, “Keep Your Head Up”, “Fine By Me”, and “Miss Me”. Even though it was just him on the stage with a guitar, his energetic sound filled up the space nicely. The connection with the crowd was easily felt with the nice introduction by Kelly Collis of 94.7 Fresh FM and a group of young fans. The audience also readily joined in with the very sing-able chorus of “Back Home”.

We have been so lucky the last few Fridays for this concert series! It was a perfect summer for Tysons Corner to open the Plaza to the public. So many have been able to enjoy the outdoor space and share their experience on social media, so I am sure that next summer’s series will have even more in the crowd! Thanks to Tysons Corner Center for giving me the opportunity to cover this series for them. It has been a lot of fun getting photos of the artists performing, and the crowd enjoying the music and the weather on these evenings.

Tonight is the last in the series, so you can still go and get your wristbands this morning to see Jacquie Lee perform. It looks like it will be another nice night to see an outdoor concert. Come out to hear the music, and come back to the blog to see the photos!

Denard Span visits Tysons Corner Center | Virginia Photographer

The Bullpen Tysons

A few weekends ago Denard Span of the Washington Nationals took some time out of his busy weekend to meet and greet with fans and a little league team at the Tysons Bullpen. The visit came in the middle of the season during a home stretch for the Nationals. If you have not followed the story of the team for this year, they are playing very well! In fact, they were in the middle for a long winning streak at the time of the photos, and Denard’s play was a big reason for their success.

For the time he was at the mall, he talked about his upbringing, his background in sports and the role it played in his development. He gave all of us an insight into what it is like to be a big league player. There are many perks, but it is a big responsibility. One of the best things I heard him say was that he still felt lucky and blessed to be doing what he is doing. To be a major league baseball player, and to have the support of his teammates and fans alike pushes him to keep working as hard as he can. He sets big goals for himself, and he is still working towards others.

Grant Paulsen from 106.7 The Fan radio station was there to get the discussion going. Hearing that baseball players play 162 games over 182 days really impressed how much of a grind it can be. There are not too many days off during the season. With all the games, travel, and playoffs if the team does well, I can see how it can be difficult. This was really eye opening for me, and seeing the difference between that and the little leaguers in the audience, you could tell that they appreciated the effort that he puts in to be where is today. It was inspiring to listen, and pushes me to do more with my own efforts.

He definitely made me a fan, and I’ll be looking to see how the Nationals do this fall as the playoffs loom. He was very nice to the little ball players, and the fans, and I can see why they root for him and the Nationals. Maybe they will be playing baseball in October in DC!
