Another event is almost ready to view on the proofing website! The DC Dance Challenge last Sunday was held in the Atrium Ballroom at the Ronald Reagan Building in downtown Washington, DC. It was a new venue for us to photograph, so we had to do a lot of adjusting before we found the sweet spot for the dance photos. We did get all the kinks worked out, and I think you will enjoy the photos! When they are ready to view, they will be at this site:

This was a full day of dancing! We caught up with lots of friends and new dancers. I’m sure those that attended really had an enjoyable time. The dance floor was very nice, the music did not skip a beat, and the competition was friendly, and beautiful to watch.

With quality judges on hand, dancers were able to receive lots of attention from them throughout the day. I could see many speaking with them after their heats to get advice and tips for future competitions. In the evening, everyone got to hear comments directly from the judges during the Dancing with the DCDC Stars. It was helpful and fun to hear what judges look for when evaluating choreographed routines. We made lots of nice photos from the day, and I will definitely be posting more on the blog soon!

DC Dance Challenge – Venue

©TimeLIne Media - Atrium Ballroom as a ballroom dance venue

We are back from photographing the DC Dance Challenge yesterday. It was an amazing feat by the organizers to find a new venue to hold the event in only 3 days! With the continuing government shutdown, the originally planned venue of the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo was not available for use. Jennifer and Fabio quickly acted to keep the event on schedule as planned, and they pulled it off perfectly! The Atrium Ballroom in the Ronald Reagan Building was an amazing space to hold this ballroom dance event.

I made lots of photos of the setting, the food, and the setup which works really well for these types of events. There was a ante-room before entering the ballroom which was setup as a practice floor and vendor area. We setup our booth there so that dancers could view their photos on iPads just outside the ballroom.

The full Dance Jam Productions floor was really liked by dancers. We see their work at a number of dancesport competitions, and this was no exception. The building also has a catering department which provided lunch and dinner for attendees in the ballroom. This was very convenient, and made the event run more smoothly. I will post more from the event, but I have to get back to editing the dancing photos for viewing this weekend!

Venue Moved – DC Dance Challenge

©TimeLine Media - DC Dance Challenge

Facts of life around DC have been challenging this last week. The government shutdown has drastically changed the way our area is looking, and there are many changes to daily life that is taking some adjustment. The Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park is run by the National Park Service. Without a federal budget, this park is closed, and no activities are able to go on at the site.

Downtown Washington, DC

So tomorrow’s DC Dance Challenge has moved to the Atrium Ballroom at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in downtown DC! This is a beautiful newer building built in the federal style to match the many government buildings in the immediate surrounding area. We are thankful that the organizers were able to arrange such a great venue in short notice! We are excited to shoot a ballroom dance event there for the first time, and of course, we’ll have the photos of the moved venue here on the blog.

The photos will definitely look different from the unique architecture and dance floor of the Spanish Ballroom, but we’ll do our best to make it look just as good in the photos. There is a lot of excitement about the competition this year, and the entries are always going up. We look forward to seeing more familiar faces on the dance floor tomorrow!
