Student Routines

This time, they had a beautiful holiday-theme red curtain as a background. At first I was not sure if this would work for the photos. Given that is becomes much brighter in my strobe flashes, I thought it would be too similar to the dancers. However, I think it worked nicely!

Overall, red is a color that pops from digital camera sensors. Although that is usually a good thing, I was worried it would overwhelm here. However, I think it worked very well! Being that it was the holidays, the red fit the event theme, and it was a complimentary background to many of the dresses. Thanks to Marielle and Carlos for inviting us this year!

District Fete

In April, I photographed the Small Biz Pitch Event in Washington, DC. Andrew Roby the event producer from District Fete was holding this event for entrepreneurs in the fashion industry. Similar to a show like “Shark Tank” this event would give business owners a chance to present the story, product, and their vision of the future.

It was inspiring for me to be in the room as they did their presentations. In addition to get good feedback from the judges, the presenters needed to have a few items prepared. Moreover, a combination of an interesting product, and a clear view of where they want to go helped get their point across. Moreover, this will help them pitched to investors for their company.

Andrew Roby

Andrew Roby is an event planner and producer working in the DC metro area. I have worked with him on a number of fashion shows, media events, and parties where customers are looking for a high-end event that look great on social networks. His events run smoothly even if there are a lot of moving parts.

At this event, there were 3 judges, 10 presenters, sponsors, and a sold out audience. The site for the event was the very modern workspace at iStrategy Labs. Not only was this a great place to have an assembly for this kind of event, but it was a very creative space for this creative agency. It was an appropriate space for aspiring creatives to further their business aspirations.

Peter Pan

Tysons, Virginia

Last summer, a production of J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan came to Tysons, Virginia. Tysons Corner Center sponsored the production by threesixty entertainment. Rather than a traditional theater, they built a big top tent! When the tent was almost completed, I photographed the flag raising. This was enticing the traffic around the tent that the show was almost ready to start!

Ten tons of rigging created the temporary venue. Before it was opened to the general public, Fairfax Board of Supervisors Chair, Sharon Bulova, introduced the production. Charlie Burnell, Founder of 360 Entertainment and Producer of the tour gave us a sneak peak of the setup. Surprisingly, they created at 1500 seat theater under the tent! In addition to a circular stage in the middle, a video screen above the stage would add to the visual elements of the play.

Tysons Corner Center

Due to their partnership with the production company, Tysons Corner Center displayed media for the show around the mall. In like fashion of their circular stage, some of their media was displayed this way.

Some of the actors made appearances during the Plaza concerts.

Peter Pan – Opening Night

Finally, I was able to see some of the full production on opening night. Whereas the tent and the stage setup was impressive as a construct, the final set with the lighting and video projection was amazing! Surely they transported children in the audience out of suburban Virginia to the place and time of Peter Pan.
