Mirrorless Travel Photos

I am finally getting around to posting about my trip to Philadelphia with my Fuji X100S. While I was accompanying my wife on a business trip, I had a chance to tour the city. While we had plenty of space, I did not want to bring my bulky camera setup with me. On this occasion, we took the train from DC, and not worrying about a large camera bag was very freeing!

In case you are unfamiliar, the Fuji X100S is a mirrorless camera. Without a doubt it is a much smaller package, but the performance is not compromised. Also the software built into the camera has some features that are not in other cameras I have used. For example, the Independence Hall above was stitched in-camera! Of course that could be done in post processing, but testing it here was impressive.

The picture styles of their JPGs particularly change the look. Since these are from the same company that makes Fuji film stocks, they named the styles in the same way. This last photo is a monochrome image out of the camera – lovely – just like the Acros film I remember from film-shooting days!

Nikolai Graduation

Falls Church, Virginia

Nikolai asked if I could take some graduation photos for him! Being that he has been my go-to assistant for many projects for the last couple of years, I happily made these for him. Prior to his arrival, I had a setup in mind that was at the ready. All of my lighting, and gear was set then mother nature changed things for us! Due to a driving rain, I could not do anything I had planned. Since we are both experienced photographers, we made changes quickly. For this reason, we headed to the forest!

Thankfully, the rain did let up a little. Under the thick leaf coverage of the park, we were somewhat protected. In spite of the rain, I still brought along a large flash outside. It was worth it to get high quality photos of Nikolai in his cap and gown. Although we are not family, I was very proud of his accomplishment. In light of how hard he works both at school, and at his part-time photography, I was amazed at his academic record! He will unquestionably will be successful as he has been in most endeavors so far. Hopefully he’ll take some time to reflect and celebrate it how much he has done already before shooting off to the next level. Congratulations, Nikolai!

All in all, making new photos is the best part about this career. You challenge yourself to make something unique, and to get into new events. Especially since I do not consider myself the most aggressive marketer, I am thankful that people have found me. Moreover, I appreciate my current clients that come back for repeat business.

Even if I were to say that I am content with my scheduled clients, I am still looking to do even more next year. I’ll keep myself available, and continue to be a presence in the Tysons, Virginia area for assignments. In any case, I am so thankful for you blog readers that follow along. Please reach out if you have any ideas for photo projects in the new year!
