Peterson Companies 50 Years

Happy 2016! During some time off for the holidays, I am blogging about some events from last year. September was the celebration of the Peterson Companies 50 year anniversary. As long as I have lived in northern Virginia, I have lived near, shopped at, or worked in a property created by them. Joanna from Peterson’s marketing has had my cover corporate events, property openings, and some other work at their centers. Thus, I was honored to cover this special event for them.

Being that their company has stayed in business for 50 years is an amazing accomplishment. Moreover, they have impacted the DC metro area with their projects transforming the development of the entire region. On this occasion it was an honor to photograph the founder, Milt Peterson who spoke to all the guests. Afterwards, the buffet from Silver Spoon Caterers was opened! Luckily the weather cooperated, and they had a beautiful evening at their headquarters for an event. Because of the good weather, the lawn games were very popular. Additionally, golf balls were driven into the lake! Although this was a company party, many coworkers seemed like family. Undoubtedly this contributes to their continued success.

Wedding Throwback Thursday

It’s our ten-year wedding anniversary today! As I recall from etiquette books, the traditional gift is an electronic web log post. DONE!

I can’t believe it has been that long. We have done so many cool things over our marriage so far – probably why it seems like the time has flown. How many football games have we seen in a stadium? How many dance steps have we learned? Oor at least are familiar with? How many places have we traveled and visited on long plane trips, or shorter car rides?

Thanks for sticking with me through long photography assignments and other bouts of creativity. You have helped to foster creative ideas for me and my photography. It would have been a much tougher time to get TimeLine Media where it is today without a good manager looking at the big picture while I’m editing through huge collections. I’m sure there are more just around the corner that I could use your help! The wedding was just the first of our large projects together. With all the ones we have faced since then, I am more convinced that there are not too many things that we could not tackle together. By the way, I need help measuring for dance pants.

I think we make a great team – here is to many more anniversaries!

One Year of Blogging!

It has been a year since I recommitted myself to blogging every day in 2013. What an experience it has been for me! There are many photographers in the blogosphere that inspired me to do this. I first saw a lot of people with “Photo 365” blogs where they would post a photo each day. Overall, that did not seem to reach the goals that I was looking to accomplish. I wanted to get more traffic to my website, and more exposure to potential clients and subjects.

One benefit from blogging every day is that it documents what is going on throughout the year more in depth than a daily journal could. The topics from the blog came from what was on top of mind at the time – upcoming events to cover, new techniques I was learning, as well as looking back to recent shoots and whether or not they were successful. I did not think that blogging would help my photography, but it definitely has! I now have a regular outlet to post and share my images where I can explain what was going on, what I was thinking – much more than I can on Facebook or other social networks.

Will I continue to blog in 2014? I think it is safe to say yes! I have really enjoyed getting to learn how to complete awriting assignment every day. The challenge to come up with topics and write more than 2 sentences is helpful in the sound-bite / 140-characted limited world. It has helped me to remember settings, and approaches better, and has helped me to setup for new shoots. If I take off a day or two, please do not be too harsh, but I still have a string of topics I would like to write about. With new subjects and events lining up for 2014 already and some changes that I have been planning starting to come online, I am sure I will have more to add to the list in no time.
