The photos from the 2018 Fall Showcase are ready to view! Another December Showcase really sets the holiday mood. At this point, we have over 8200 photos at the TimeLine Media proofing site. Student Showcases

Since we have two rooms to cover for the showcase routines, I needed help to cover. with this in mind, I only photographed the Smooth room myself. Seeing that we had some excellent assistants in the Rhythm room, I could concentrate on the large Smooth ballroom.

While photographing in this room, I wonder which is more challenging. In the rhythm room, the audience is much closer, and the floor smaller. However, the larger room has more floor to cover even though there is more distance to the edges. This highlights a contrast in dancing styles. Do you have a style that you prefer – let me know!

Professional Competition

To conclude the event, the professionals hit the dance floor together. On this occasion there were five heats of one dance competitions. As I have posted before these are not my favorite going into the shoot. However, I always seems to find favorites as I edit them. To be sure, I do not get as many keepers from the competition floor. Comparatively, ending with professional shows results in more keepers for the photographer. On the other hand, the crowd really ramps up the energy cheering on their teachers. Maybe the photos aren’t the more important thing? 🙂

Pro-Am Performances

Now that we are done with an event, I can take some time to review. As I looked, this event had 550 heats! With this in mind, I found that was 100 more than the Spring Freestyles. Thus we did end up with significantly more images. Since we have now been at this same ballroom for years, our lighting is now set for these. However, I think there is still a difference in the kinds of images we make. For one thing, we have different photographers that help cover the events with us. But that does not mean we compromise on quality of photos. Let us know if you have any feedback for us – we still have more of these on the future schedule. Enjoy!
