Arthur Murray – Fall Freestyles next week

It is less than a week until we get back to ballroom dancing! This upcoming Friday and Saturday is the DC Area Arthur Murray Fall Freestyles event being held at the Sheraton Premiere in Tysons Corner, VA. Overall, we are excited to get back to the dance floor after the summer break. There has been a lot of dancing during that time, and we want to make more of our photos to go along with the dancing. When we first stepped into the ballroom world, the Fall Freestyles was the first ballroom dance event we attended. Of course, it can be intimidating if you have never been a part of the scene! There are sparkling, beautiful dresses around the hotel; ladies have makeup and jewels to catch the lights and eyes of the judges; and the loud music gets the audience to cheer on their fellow students and instructors.

We are also going back to a venue that we used to frequent more often. Although it is familiar, the Sheraton in Tysons Corner has undergone a lot of renovations. Not only the guestroom, but the ballroom and reception areas have also changed. We will try to take advantage of the nice balcony that they still have to get overhead views of the event. If you have friends or would like to come to view the event from the mezzanine balcony, contact one of the DC Area Studios. They will gladly give you details on the availability and cost for a seat up there. Not only will you be able to cheer on your friends, but you will have a nice vantage of this fun event. See you next weekend!

Theodore Roosevelt Island

©TimeLine Media - Theodore Roosevelt Island

Theodore Roosevelt Island is a serene spot right in the middle of everything. Just a footbridge across from Arlington, Virginia, this island sits in the Potomac River making it a part of Washington, DC. From the island, you can get views over the river to the tall office buildings in Rosslyn, Virginia. As can be seen people are in these tall buildings have a great view of the capital city. Obviously, This area does not have the same height restrictions as DC!

The parking lot is just off the George Washington Memorial Parkway, and the bike trail which follows it. In that case, it makes it a popular spot for visitors to rest and explore along the way. Many college students attending the nearby universities can be seen on the trails. Moreover, they are in the water enjoying paddle boarding, and boating in the busy waterways surrounding the island.

There were a few markers along the trails marking where a 19th century mansion once stood. Additionally, there are a few describing some of the history and nature that are present there. In the middle, is a memorial to the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. There are canals, two large fountains, and a 17-foot statue of the president at the center. Along the edges are monolithic cement blocks with some of his more famous and profound quotes inscribed.

It is a nice place to rest as you traverse the island trails. The lower trails will follow the river into a marshy, swampy area. Other trails will take you a little higher in elevation. In almost every section, you can have views of the surrounding areas of Georgetown, and Rosslyn. It is not too challenging, and will give you some unique views of the city that are not as popular, but still accessible and beautiful!

Canvas Sale

As I have noted, canvas prints have become a popular way to hang art on your walls. These prints are a more contemporary presentation of images, without frames, or borders. However, if you would like a more traditional setting, these can be placed into wood frames, or created with a color border surrounding the edges. At this time I have many of my personal prints hanging in my house this way. Mine are grouped into collections for wall spaces. I especially enjoy the reaction people have from seeing large, custom-made photographs in my home. Of course I appreciate having paintings or reprints of famous photos, but as personal as photography is to me, it is a perfect way to present my craft to family and visitors.

So much of my photography is from the ballroom dance floor. Many customers have emailed, and we have created nice groupings of canvas prints for their spaces. While some are on walls, some have them gone up staircases, others have been placed in their entertainment rooms where they practice some of their dancing. Unlike paper prints, it is much easier to hang these as larger prints – they come with rubber bumpers, and framing wire already attached so you just need to mount a picture frame hook to hang these pieces. If you have any questions about them, please let me know! I can help you measure out a good size for a space you were thinking, and can recommend images if you have a few in mind. My email is rassi @ timelinedc.com, phone 703-864-8208.
