Jo and Claro Engagement Session

Washington, DC

Jo and Claro met me in downtown DC for some engagement photos. Claro and his family have been family friends for years. By comparison, we are Hokies, Filipino, and lived most of our lives in northern Virginia. He and his fiance Jo planned to marry last summer. When they thought about a photographer for their day, I came to mind. Of course, I jumped at the chance to cover this important event for them!

National Gallery of Art East Building

Our first stop was the National Gallery of Art. Seeing that it is a space to view large art installations, it is a beautiful space for portraits! The large open space with lots of natural light makes photos very easy. In addition, your subjects can move around freely and still be in nice even light.

We started in the East Building of the museum. Given that is a modern space with clean lines, we found plenty of places for photos. With this purpose in mind, we explored all the levels of the museum to find the best spots. In between the East and West building, there is a tunnel famous for posing subjects. Above a motorized walkway a many spot lights mimicking a symmetrical field of stars. Whenever I get a chance, I will bring subjects here. I have not fallen off of the walkway yet!

Lastly, there is collection of glass pyramids on the ground level outside of the West Building. As a matter of fact, it it right above the tunnel in the above photos. Putting them in between these glass sculptures creates some awesome reflections. In reality, it is producing a Photoshop-like effect right in the camera! Although we did not have to walk a long distance, we were able to get a lot of Jo and Claro engagement photos quickly.

Catherine and Bill – Virginia Wedding Photographer

It has been a very busy summer – so many photo project to catch up on the blog! I will be working to get through them as soon as I can. Today I have a beautiful northern Virginia wedding. Catherine and Bill had an amazing ceremony day with many family and friends attending. Her brother was the celebrant of the Mass which added to the special details of the day.

From the arrival of the bride and groom, they were both so excited to be reciting their vows at the church. After the ceremony, their family gathered at the Old Town Hall in Fairfax for some cool drinks and an energetic reception. This helped them show off their new moves during their first dance. The DJ had a great setup – I wanted to dance! When dinner was ready, the party was moved downstairs where the joining families had a chance to go around and meet each other.

I heard Bill say that he looks forward to the many get-togethers they will be having over the next 50 years! As the sun went down and the temperature cooled, we went out for some fun photos by the colorful fountain just outside. I promised not to keep them away from the dance floor for too long! Thanks to Mario Brathwaite for helping to cover this awesome wedding with me. Congrats to the bride and groom!

Wedding Throwback Thursday

It’s our ten-year wedding anniversary today! As I recall from etiquette books, the traditional gift is an electronic web log post. DONE!

I can’t believe it has been that long. We have done so many cool things over our marriage so far – probably why it seems like the time has flown. How many football games have we seen in a stadium? How many dance steps have we learned? Oor at least are familiar with? How many places have we traveled and visited on long plane trips, or shorter car rides?

Thanks for sticking with me through long photography assignments and other bouts of creativity. You have helped to foster creative ideas for me and my photography. It would have been a much tougher time to get TimeLine Media where it is today without a good manager looking at the big picture while I’m editing through huge collections. I’m sure there are more just around the corner that I could use your help! The wedding was just the first of our large projects together. With all the ones we have faced since then, I am more convinced that there are not too many things that we could not tackle together. By the way, I need help measuring for dance pants.

I think we make a great team – here is to many more anniversaries!
