The photos from the River City Ballroom Dance Competition are now available to view on the website! On this occasion, one of our associate photographers, Nick, covered the event. This time it was held at the beautiful Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, VA. Veronica and Lee make this a great event for dancers to get in front of the judges. Additionally, they can show off what they have been working on from school figures to choreographed routines. Even though I was not there in person, I can see in the photos what a great time it was! Afterwards, it was nice to see some familiar faces, and I hope that we can make it down there next year. All of the photos have been posted to the proofing website here:
Here are more photos from the River City Ballroom Dance competition. These are from the Professional Showcase that ended a full day of competition. Eduardo Torres and Cristina Acevedo gave a beautiful demonstration of their American Rhythm dances for the attendees at this time. As can be seen, a previous blog post has more photos. It is important to realize that this year’s event will be at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in downtown Richmond, VA on March 23, 2013.
From the photography of this show, the lower angle really showed off these dancers height. Additionally they really stretched each of their lines nicely! Their lines emphatically showed their strength as athletes. In short, I think this is a goal for a photographer. Hero shots need to make your subject look authoritative, in command, and larger than life. Above all, this should be what you are looking to make through the camera. I don’t think this can be done from eye-level, or above your subject. Give it a try the next time you are on a shoot!
These photos are from another great event that TimeLine Media photographs each year, the River City Ballroom Dance Competition. Competition organizers Veronica Braun and Lee Nugent from Simply Ballroom VA in Richmond have worked hard to put together a really nice event for dancers to show off for judges and studio friends. It is held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center which has a large high-ceiling room with a beautiful dance floor.
Familiar faces
It is also nice to see so many familiar dancers at this event. Being from the northern Virginia area, it is nice to see many instructors, dancers that recognize us, and know what we do. It emphatically does make for better photos! The trip to Richmond is very drivable. Additionally, the area around the convention center is very convenient to hotels, restaurants. Also it gives a nice variety to the type of venues we shoot. I am much more confident if anyone asks for photos in a large convention center room that I can light the room to get good exposures.
2013 Event
The convention center room is so large that I do have to adjust the way I light the dance floor, but we still get beautiful images of dancers in all styles. This year, they are planning a Professional Showcase Challenge to add to the program which should be a great show! We are excited about going back to cover the event this year, and we look forward to making more great images. See you there!
