Today’s post is from the Arthur Murray 2013 Summer Showcase. These photos were from the professional show by the Gaithersburg studio. As long as we have been attending DC area dance events, we have seen Jonathan on the dance floor. Whenever he is out there, I am inspired by his dancing. As can be seen, he has incredible balance, and control of his movement. On this occasion, the dance was a Bolero. Overall, it was an athletic performance with lots of lifts and dips to excite the crowd.

Gaithersburg Pro Show

I love this photo showing the enthusiastic supporters from Gaithersburg screaming for their instructors, and ready with their cameras! This was the second performance from their studio at this event, and they should be proud of the reception they received from the audience. Even though the crowd is so close to the dance floor, I do not consider them as much when concentrating on the performers. So in any photo if you catch a nice crowd reaction, it was likely a happy accident. We can’t wait to see what they come up with for the next event!

Arthur Murray – Chevy Chase Professional Show

©TimeLine Media - Arthur Murray - Tango professional show

Today’s post is from the Chevy Chase professional show performed at the end of the Arthur Murray Summer Showcase. They performed a Tango with a beautiful traditional red dress for the lady. For me, I find it one of the more technical dances. Consequently, it is a difficult dance to do well. Comparatively it can look very similar to other dances if done without the nuances that make it a Tango. However, it is one of the best dances to photograph! There are serious faces on the dancers. Additionally there are sharp, precise movements in the dancer’s feet and head position, and there are usually vibrant colors in the costumes. Both dancers convey strength, and intensity which translates very well to the camera. This was emphatically the case in this show, and I think I was able to capture some of this in the images. July 4 photos

©TimeLine Media - dachshund portrait

It was a really hot and humid day yesterday! Typical July 4th for the DC area. I spent the day with some family but did not take a break from making some photos. Hope everyone enjoyed a good day off!

Animal Portraits

While on a walk out in the country, this beautiful yellow bird contrasted nice against the blue sky. Sometimes these elements come together easy for a photo! On this occasion, there was a complimentary color subject compared to the background. Additionally, there were no distracting elements with a cloudless sky. It can be that simple.

Pet Portraits

Coming back inside, I spent some time with some furry friends. Late in the afternoon, the strong setting sunlight made for dramatic lighting. When you pose a subject in strong sun, the background will fall of dramatically. As can be seen in this photo, the strong sunlight creates strong shadows on a face. This is similar to a bare flash head. For a dog’s face, this makes for a nice portrait. Always reward your pet portrait subjects with a belly rub!
