Best Gifts

I am so thankful for another great Christmas spent with family. There was so much good food to eat, and many gifts to exchange! Some of the best gifts are still related to photography. A new camera, or a new camera bag to hold all my stuff! Actually, I am enjoying going through some old photos. I sent a few of our old family slides out to be scanned. It takes a long time to do the scanning right, and the equipment can be hard to master.

Luckily, there are lots of places that you can outsource this. Luckily they were able to complete the job in time before Christmas. It was nice to share the digitized images with family while we had some time to relax and go through them. These old images definitely have more meaning as time passes. This makes me appreciate even more the job of being a photographer to help preserve even better images for people if I have the gear and the knowledge to do so.

I have plenty of personal images to go through after the scanning. These were all taken on slide film, so we did not see them as often as those that were taken with negative film, and then printed. These always stayed as slides and would only come out when my parents setup the projector, loaded them into trays, and displayed them on a projector screen. Sometimes we would look at them on a small slide viewer, but it was still rarer than looking through the prints. It has been fun to look at them again especially during the holidays.

Merry Christmas!

The shopping, shipping, wrapping, and cooking is almost done! Merry Christmas to all of the supporters of our photography – blog readers, Facebook fans, Twitter followers, and everyone else that we have photographed this year. We are celebrating the season by giving gifts, spending time with family, making more photos, and enjoying the very COLD weather! We hope all of you are doing much the same.

This is a present from my mom to herself! Yes, I did help her pick it out. It has a nice snap to it’s shutter (like the all have) and lots of good upgrades over her old D40. My mom just wanted it because IT’S RED!! Plus, she wants to shoot video along with her photos. I guess I will be giving her the gift of photo lessons for the foreseeable future. I am sure that many of those will be future blog posts. The gears are already spinning as another year of blogging starts soon.

I have already eaten too much for this holiday, but I have been enjoying it! All the houses are full of the smells of the season. Too bad that cameras cannot capture that along with the pictures. I will do my best to capture some memories, but take a lot of time away from the camera to get more to eat! Merry Christmas to you and all of your loved ones!

Christmas Decorations

If it seems like Christmas is approaching quickly this year, it is!! I have been lucky to be photographing a lot this holiday season, and am really enjoying working so many holiday events. The decorations around the buildings and store have been inspiring for making photos, so I have made the most of the opportunity.

My mother always decorates a beautiful Christmas tree. She keeps the light all white with many different decorations she has collected over the years. She used to decorate multiple trees, so she has to pick and choose which ones to hang every time it goes up! Some of the ornaments are hand made, some were bought when she first started decorating trees in the 1970’s, and many of them are gifts from family, friends, and former patients. We stopped by for a visit, and she did a nice job again. Enjoy some of the photos!

Last Event

We are shooting one more ballroom dance event for the year, the studio showcase for That’s Dancing in Jessup, MD. It is planned for this evening, and if the weather holds up, it should be a great show! I will work on the photos this week, and when they are completed, you can see them at the usual site for all of our ballroom dance photos:
