Posters – American Star Ball

Today I am working a little differently with my photos. I am making some photos to display this weekend at the 2013 American Star Ball. I print these at a size of 20 x 30 posters to display at our booth. The large size should hopefully attract attention along with the new pull up banner that I made to replace the old one that I have used for a few years. I had to look through some of my favorite image from previous competitions and decide which ones to print. This is always the hardest to do! In all, I found three that I decided would work. Here is one of them:

From a previous post, I talk about selecting this particular image for printing. At that time, I had the color of the dresses in mind. However, when I put the titles onto the poster, there was too many distracting elements in the frame. So I desaturated the photograph to simplify.

If you would like to see the others, and watch some great dancing, come to the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, NJ this weekend. We will be there Friday to Sunday. I am hoping to get more great ballroom dance photos this weekend. Here is the ad for our photography coverage.

This May 13 is an anniversary for me and my dance partner. We “danced” for the first at my senior high school prom on this day more than a few years ago. There have been many changes since then, but we are still dancing together. We are MUCH better dancers now, but we could always use more practice. I think we’ll have to go to class on Wednesday to keep learning. Sorry I stepped on your toes that one time 😉

From a photographer standpoint, it can be helpful to be in the shoes of your subjects. Especially since we photograph a lot of dance events, it was informative to feel the experience of your customers. Are the photographers distracting? How do the flashes affect your concentration? In this case, I found that I did not notice the flashes going off. With all of the other photographers popping off flashes, I could not tell which ones were ours. Similarly to oral reports at school, dancers are more concerned with their own performance as opposed to anything else going on!
