Engagement Photos with Leah and CJ in Newport News, Virginia

CJ and Leah are going to be married this August, and we got together to get some engagement photos of the two of them. It was very hot and sunny in Newport News, VA, but they gladly worked through posts for me. They told me about how CJ proposed, and their plans for the wedding day.

They are well-prepared and are planning for a fun time with family and friends. We were able to get some shots with their dogs as well, and they cooperated for a few snaps!  At this time, they picked area by the Mariner’s Museum Park. Although it was very close to a busy part of time, this was a nice oasis next to the lake. Leah I met only recently. However, CJ has been a work friend for a few years. Now that we both have moved on to new career paths, it was nice to see him doing so well!

Danceflame.com portraits

Last week, I had the opportunity to photograph Marsha and Dmitry at the Regan Dance Center in Alexandria, VA.  They teach Ballroom, Latin, and Flamenco dancing classes for individuals and groups at the studio, and have an annual student Showcase to display their hard work! It is here that I first met them last year. As a couple, the also compete in professional ballroom dance competitions. For more information about lessons, their website is: Danceflame.com or you can follow them on Twitter @Danceflame.

This session was a lot of fun! It is something that I have wanted to try for a while. Photographing dancers while on the floor is so fast, and the challenge is to make a good exposure when they are in a good position compared to the camera. In the studio, dancers are always perfecting their body position, placing themselves into lines that are great for capturing with the camera. It was my turn to move the lights and change the power to create drama, emphasizing their poses. Thanks, Marsha, and Dmitry! I hope you enjoy the photos!

Fun times!

It’s always great to revisit old friends. Mike and I worked in the lab for a long time, getting through a lot of challenging projects. We’ve gone through a lot of changes since our last assay, so it was great to catch up!

Fun times celebrating Mike's 30th birthday
Fun times celebrating a birthday in Gaithersburg, Maryland

On this occasion, Mike invited us out to celebrate his birthday. We previously worked together in a laboratory. Likewise we had a lot of fun times while working. Although we both studied in the sciences, we have departed from that line of work. From what I can see, Mike is doing very well!

At the time we worked in the lab, I thought I would work there for my entire career. However, you grow and progress in an organization. Sometimes when promoted, your new position is not a great fit. This was the case for me. I was better in a lower position, but as never comfortable as a manager. That being the case, I struck out on my own with my creative endeavor. My mom says that the universe will find a way to put you where you need to be. As far as I can see, this is the truth so far!
