Holy Trinity 10th Anniversary Gala

In late June, I had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful gala celebration for the 10th Anniversary of the start of Holy Trinity Parish in Gainesville, VA. There was a great crowd there to celebrate the challenging work done over the last decade. Afterwards it led to the creation of a large and active church community with an amazing building for Sunday Masses. Some of those attending were Anne and Ronald Dixon from Dixon Studio. They are the incredible artists whose award-winning work is on display at the parish. They created many of the windows, objects, and other details built into the church building, some of which I photographed for them here.

The evening’s main event was a musical performance by Julie Murphy Wells, the lead vocalist of Eddie From Ohio. She sang her favorite selections of standards and Broadway songs with her band in Merchant Hall of the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, VA. This space is the premiere place for holding musical, theatrical presentations for audiences in the area. I have enjoyed many performances of symphonies and other musical groups at area auditoriums, but Hylton is now a place to proudly display talented performers. I would like to come back to photograph or enjoy another performance before too long!

Don’t mess with a knife-juggling priest.

Thanks to Father Peffley, and the Holy Trinity 10th Anniversary Committee for having me cover this event. It was a privilege to cover such an important milestone at a beautiful setting. Thank you!

Washington DC celebration dinner

Last Saturday, I was privileged to photograph a family celebration dinner for a Bar Mitzvah at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, DC. At this time the event was a gathering of family and friends on a beautiful evening in our nation’s capital. The event was planned by Kelley at Carte Blanche Events. Also, Dick Steiner provided the entertainment for all the guests in attendance. Both Kelley and Dave from the Four Seasons were very helpful in making the evening run smoothly. Additionally. they helped me to get some great images of the family, the events, and the food!

On this occasion, the desserts really capped off a great night! A deconstructed smore served on dishes, and a “Hammer Time” table created by Dave brought a fun and unique way to get your last bit of chocolate, sweet, and nutty treats in a take-home bag. Lots of fun to break up and eat!!

Fun times!

It’s always great to revisit old friends. Mike and I worked in the lab for a long time, getting through a lot of challenging projects. We’ve gone through a lot of changes since our last assay, so it was great to catch up!

Fun times celebrating Mike's 30th birthday
Fun times celebrating a birthday in Gaithersburg, Maryland

On this occasion, Mike invited us out to celebrate his birthday. We previously worked together in a laboratory. Likewise we had a lot of fun times while working. Although we both studied in the sciences, we have departed from that line of work. From what I can see, Mike is doing very well!

At the time we worked in the lab, I thought I would work there for my entire career. However, you grow and progress in an organization. Sometimes when promoted, your new position is not a great fit. This was the case for me. I was better in a lower position, but as never comfortable as a manager. That being the case, I struck out on my own with my creative endeavor. My mom says that the universe will find a way to put you where you need to be. As far as I can see, this is the truth so far!
