Headshots

It is nice to see so many people that use my photos as their on social networks! There are many dancers that we see at competitions that use their action photos as their profile photos. It is funny when I get friend requests or LinkedIn connection requests and associated with the person is one of my photos.

Studio Portraits

Now that I am more comfortable with setting up and photographing the action on the floor, I have had more opportunity to do portraits off the dance floor. With the additional time that I must prepare and frame the photos, I have made more formal portraits. This has translated especially well for people wanting to update their head shots. For actors, dancers, as well as other professionals, it is important to have a current portrait taken within the last 2 years. For promotional materials, business cards, corporate directories, and social networks, the profile photo goes a long way to illustrate what you do.

Business Headshots

These photos are used on websites serving as introductions to potentials clients. They convey some of the personalities of those represented even though they are a still image. These can be done in the studio, at your location, or also in outdoor settings. If you have a need to update your headshots, please let me know! They are easy to setup in almost any location, and I am very flexible. At most it can take up to 2 hours to complete. If you need more examples or want more information, please leave me an email [ rassi @ timelinedc.com ] or give me call (703) 864 – 8208. Have a great weekend!

Photography and Social Media – Tech Thursday

Social-Media-collage-www.timelinedc.com

My career as a photographer has grown leaps and bounds with the explosion of social media. I first saw the power of social networking in reconnecting with old school friends and previous job friends. Also I have family that reside across the globe. The next step was the ability to connect with other photographers that I admired. With photographers linking directly into their Facebook pages and their Twitter feeds it became easy to reach out and connect. As it became normal to communicate this way, I was able to introduce myself. Additionally I was able to let people know what I do. I asked them for business tips, photo technique tips, and ideas for other shoots.

Connected Marketing

Facebook and Google Plus in particular make sharing photography a top priority. These are the best way that I have used to show off my photos and current projects. Posting to these pages let not only my friends, but their friends that are not directly connected to me view some awesome images! When their friends view, like, and comment on images, my contact information will be easy to find. I have connected with clients this way and have been invited to shoot events this way too.

Event Marketing

As you have seen, I do shoot lots of ballroom dance events. I get so  many action shots from these weekends, that I can keep posting images on this blog for a long time to come. These shots can be used by the organizers to promote future events, by judges that are marketing their services to other events, and to the teachers that use events as recruiting for new students and studios.

The organizers of the New Jersey State Open held in Atlantic City, NJ have used lots of my images in their routine postings on Facebook. Adding some of my photos that show their event as it was held has helped them to get over 4000 subscribers to their web page!  They will be the first to know about any developments on their event, and the visual images helped to keep them at the top of mind for dancers planning their competition schedule this year.

There are so many resources available for small businesses that allow them to market their services to targeted audiences on social media. Having good head shots, environmental, and other promotional photography is important to convey your company on the internet. Show off your products, your culture, and your style through photos. If you have any need for these, contact me. I can be reached on social and traditional means below –

Tysons Corner – Garage C

Finally the clouds have gone away! I was able to go out and get some photos of the some of the development projects being done in the Tysons Corner area. At first is a photo of a cluster of buildings looking south from Garage C of the Tysons Corner Center. I think this would make a great background for portraits and would love to try sometime! Similarly to shooting nature landscapes, early morning or early evening has the best light for these types of photos. There is still blue in the sky, However, the light is coming at an angle. This adds dimension to the photos, as well as creates reflected lights in the windows. Once the sun moves high into the sky, you lose this as all the windows turn black. Also the harsh shadows turns your creative landscape photo into an ordinary snapshot.

Tysons Corner – Garage E

The recently completed HOT lanes from 495 have opened, and the Metro train lines are moving along quickly. From the Tysons Corner mall garages, you can get a good view of the Metro construction along with the new Tysons Tower. According to their website the new tower will rise high above the area providing panoramic views to DC. Many DC landmarks can already be seen from the parking garage where I took this photo. The ISO was set at 50, and the aperture was set at f/11. I used this for the best quality raw file to work with, and to keep allow for a higher shutter speed. The exposure time for this photo was 4 seconds which gives a nice blur to the moving cranes in the scene, and the workers moving around on the ground.

Here the sun was still not over the horizon, so there is some nice color in the sky. To balance the light in the scene, I processed the photo in Adobe Lightroom, and adjusted the mid tones to bring out some of the darker parts of the construction area to bring out more of the details in the photo. It will be nice to come back to this spot to see how the building progresses.  Thanks to the Tysons Corner for suggesting some ideas for shooting spots!
