The 2015 Summer Showcase photos have been released at the TimeLine Media proofing site! Whenever we finish such a large event, we are excited to share the images quickly. So below is the link for all the photos from the event:
In addition to school figures, dancing should incorporate some unique personality. Of course a technical standard is needed as a baseline. However, no two people move exactly the same way! By comparison Showcase routines show off both aspects.
Firstly, the students will work on choreography. Above all, you have to be able to dance confidently! Secondly, music will set the tone for their routine. Lastly, costumes will finish the ensemble.
After all the routines have finished, the dancers compete in the All-Arounds. Being that this is a competition, the gentlemen put on numbers for judges to tell them apart. Dancing is competitive, but still fun at Arthur Murray!
I really feel bad for neglecting the blog! During this time, I have been busy with shoots, travel, and catching up to get these photos out. Before I head out for more photos, I wanted to get a post out about the Maryland Dancesport Championships. Next Monday, June 15, 2015 will be the last day that you can view these photos on the TimeLine Media proofing site here:
It was our first time covering this event for Amanda and Ilya Reyzin. Previously, they have had us cover other events for them. We were excited about going to a new venue! Additionally, we were happy to see so many familiar faces out on the floor! Being closer to our home base, we had a nice time bringing more of our familiar assistants with us to help get more of the action captured.

As with the other events that they organize, the Reyzins went all-out in their ballroom decorations and technology use to enhance the experience for attendants. They had a huge 4k screen behind the dais that showed clips from movies, past competitions, and graphics of the local Baltimore area. It made a great backdrop for the photos from the opposite end of the floor, and really became another character in the images. My photographers and I used this to get more interesting compositions, and we were lucky in lots of cases. It was such a high resolution screen that it did not become distracting or a blurry mess as previous screens I have seen.

Other than the décor, we were really welcomed nicely by the dancers that visited the booth to preview their photos. We had all the tablets out and viewed images all weekend with people that found us in the back corner. Thanks for stopping by to say hello! We enjoy making these photos, and we hope to see you at another event soon. Our next event on the calendar is the DC Area Arthur Murray Summer Showcase. From what I have seen around the studio, there are many people refining their routines as the date is closing in fast! See you there!

Tysons Corner Center
To celebrate the 2015 Lunar New Year at Tysons Corner Center, there was an event in their Concourse to show off Chinese culture. The Year of the Goat started on February 19. To attract visitors, there was a lot of color and sound echoing throughout the mall to signal what was going on that afternoon.

At the start of the Concourse there was a beautiful display
of laterns and fruit that are symbols of luck for the new year. The eyes are drawn
to all the color and motion that was on display. Luckily the mall had plenty of
space for spectators to take in the action.

Demonstrations

Musicians played traditional instruments. One artist gave
a demonstration of hanging traditional lanterns, and a group filled the hall
with the sound of drumming. The most exciting display was the dancing Dragon
that danced to the drums all around the Concourse and to part of the mall
hallways to bring more into the audience. The dragon dancers interacted with some
audience members that fed him lettuce for good luck.

Tommy McFly from 94.7 Fresh FM was the emcee for the
events. He is always a professional welcoming everyone to the events in Tysons.
He moved easily from in front of the crowd to in front of the camera to make
sure everyone that participated had some shine throughout the afternoon. Happy
new year!
