2017 Pennsylvania Ballroom Scrimmage photos Released

The photos from last weekend’s 2017 Pennsylvania Ballroom Scrimmage are now ready to view at the TimeLine Media proofing site! Although this was not the first photo assignment in Lancaster, it was our first ballroom dance event. Since it was not too far from the metro DC area, we saw a lot of familiar faces from studios close to home. Similarly to other events, we have edited and sorted the photos by gentlemen’s number. Ballroom Scrimmage

We met organizer, Barbra Snyder, at competitions in the DC Area. When she gave us the opportunity to photograph her event, we jumped at the chance. The Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square is a grand venue for events. Given that this was a large room, we used all the lighting we brought with us! Being connected to the convention center was a bonus. In spite of the sprawling hotel, we were able to setup quickly from the garage. I know all the participants had a great weekend of dancing!

NAMI 2017 Annual Walk

Last month, I photographed the NAMI 2017 Annual Walk held on the Plaza at Tysons Corner Center. On this occasion, they held the 9th edition of this annual event for NAMI – the National Alliance on Mental Illness. While this was not the first race I have photographed at this venue, there were many participants on this walk!

Prior to the start of the race, the organizers made some comments about the goals of the walk and the donations that were raised. Hearing the stories from some of the participants was encouraging as they described their experiences with mental illness. In brief, some were family members that made use of the resources of NAMI. The provide education and vital support to those that work with adults that have a mental health condition.

From a photography perspective, the branding of the mall from the Plaza is prominent and easy to incorporate into the images. Additionally the clear Saturday morning gave a feel of energy and positivity which matched the goals of the walk. Also the large crowd right at the start of the walk illustrated the support and community built around NAMI and its event.

2017 Spring Freestyles photos Expiring

Ballroom Decorations

Throughout this weekend, we had a number of fun additions to the regular schedule. During the breaks, we updated some photos to display on the projector in the ballroom. For this purpose, it was better for us to make the photos black and white. This is a huge ballroom! Under those circumstances, it is difficult to clearly see a projected image. Because of this, I converted the photos to monochrome to make them easier to see.

During dinner, there was a quick celebration for Carolina’s birthday! Who would not want an entire ballroom dancers singing to you on your special day? Glad I caught this nice moment during dinner.

Professional Shows

To finish the event, we were treated to seven awesome professional shows. Additionally, we had a very special spotlight to end the event. Seeing that John and Carol Clark are a regular fixture as judges for these events, it was nice to see them dancing! To conclude the event, the organizers had them out to celebrate their anniversary!
