Hyatt Regency – Tysons

To finish my year of Tysons photos, I photographed the 2017 Fit Club Christmas. I can emphatically say that this was not a workout ‘for fun. By all means, these people were SERIOUS about their exercise! While they had posters of an interval training direction all over the ballroom, they blew a whistle and started going for it. Given that there were 12 steps to the directions, it took a while for everyone to get through each of the exercises. For sure they burned a lot of holiday calories that evening!

After that event, I went just outside to complete another photo request from Macerich. Since the traffic going into the mall was busy towards the end of the season, it would be a good time to get photos of the exterior. Since I was at the ground floor of the Hyatt at the 2017 Fit for Christmas event, I walked out to make photos of the Plaza, the hotel, and the traffic driving in. Luckily, it was a perfect evening to get the buildings balanced with the dwindling evening light. I was so thankful I was done with all of my shopping!

Working out is needed during the holidays, and during the 2017 Santa Fit4Mom event, Santa participated one morning before the mall opened. Surely many of the new moms planned to get photos with Santa, and this gave them an opportunity to get some out of the Santa HQ set! Of course Santa did some of the exercises with them. I think it definitely jump started his day!

In addition to visits in the mall, Santa made some appearances off campus. The afternoon programs at Culmore FRC had a group of children eager to have Santa come by. Likewise, Santa was able to see so many at one visit!

Tysons Corner Center

Last month, I photographed the NAMI 2017 Annual Walk held on the Plaza at Tysons Corner Center. On this occasion, they held the 9th edition of this annual event for NAMI – the National Alliance on Mental Illness. While this was not the first race I have photographed at this venue, there were many participants on this walk!

Prior to the start of the race, the organizers made some comments about the goals of the walk and the donations that were raised. Hearing the stories from some of the participants was encouraging as they described their experiences with mental illness. In brief, some were family members that made use of the resources of NAMI. The provide education and vital support to those that work with adults that have a mental health condition.

From a photography perspective, the branding of the mall from the Plaza is prominent and easy to incorporate into the images. Additionally the clear Saturday morning gave a feel of energy and positivity which matched the goals of the walk. Also the large crowd right at the start of the walk illustrated the support and community built around NAMI and its event.
