Tysons Corner Center

Earlier this Fall, I photographed 2017 Washington Nationals Clinic at the Bullpen. In case you did not know, Tysons Corner Center has a beautiful baseball practice facility hidden in its ground floor! Making use of a previous movie theater space, the Bullpen is altogether a unique space in Tysons. On this occasion, the Washington Nationals conducted a clinic for local Little League teams with some coaches from their academy.

The Plaza

Continuing the partnership with the Washington Nationals, the mall made both the Bullpen and the Plaza available to the team. Certainly the Running Presidents grab a lot of attention as they are literally larger than life, and instantly recognizable as team ambassadors. Of course this crowd was glad to interact with them! After the clinic, the group went up to the Plaza for a showing of the evening game against the Mets. It was a full day of baseball action in Tysons!

Tysons Corner Center

Last month, I photographed the NAMI 2017 Annual Walk held on the Plaza at Tysons Corner Center. On this occasion, they held the 9th edition of this annual event for NAMI – the National Alliance on Mental Illness. While this was not the first race I have photographed at this venue, there were many participants on this walk!

Prior to the start of the race, the organizers made some comments about the goals of the walk and the donations that were raised. Hearing the stories from some of the participants was encouraging as they described their experiences with mental illness. In brief, some were family members that made use of the resources of NAMI. The provide education and vital support to those that work with adults that have a mental health condition.

From a photography perspective, the branding of the mall from the Plaza is prominent and easy to incorporate into the images. Additionally the clear Saturday morning gave a feel of energy and positivity which matched the goals of the walk. Also the large crowd right at the start of the walk illustrated the support and community built around NAMI and its event.

Tysons, Virginia

Last week, I photographed the 2017 Back to School fashion show at Tysons Corner Center. Because we are heading into an uncertain weather time, the location for this event changed. Despite the rain outside, the producers for this show moved it inside. Thus the runway was set up in the same area in front of Lord and Taylor as their previous fashion shows. Although I arrive early for all my shoots, DJ Donnie was already there setup for the show. Of course he had a Prince track that came up on his playlist during the warmup. It always makes me smile when ‘Purple Rain’ plays in light of the large purple carpet set up for the runway.

Concurrently, there were other booths setup for 2017 Back to School around the fashion show. There was information on art programs, bike safety, and eating healthy when going back to the routine. Certainly the kids were interested in the demonstrations, but the parents were also engaged. You could feel the energy about starting the new school year!
