Maryland Dancesport Championships sale ending

Baltimore, Maryland

I extended the sale for the Maryland Dancesport Championships a few days. Since I did not properly give notice on the blog or on the social networks it, I added some days. The new deadline in FRIDAY March 6, 2015 for the early-bird discounts at the TimeLine Media proofing site:

The photos from this competition were excellent all-around. We had a great group of photographers that helped us cover the action on the dance floor! I am just disappointed that I have not had the time to properly blog about the experience at this competition with awesome new owners, Amanda and Ilya Reyzin. We were so happy that they invited us to photograph another of their events, and we had a great time over the 3 days in Baltimore.

Ballroom Dance Venue

They always decorate the ballroom so nicely, but they add in a bit of modern technology with each competition. This time, they had a huge 4K screen as a backdrop to the dais above the floor. The photographers really used this to their advantage to make for some different image compositions.

We had a great time visiting with so many local dancers since it was so close to home. We made sure to reconnect, and of course, get their new figures in the can as they have been working hard on new moves and new costumes since they last time we saw them. The professional competitive heats were really exceptional to watch. This was the one time I was thankful that I did not have to photograph as much so that I could enjoy seeing the action without being stuck in the viewfinder!

Professional Competition

This is the second competition where I had the opportunity to do so, and it is hard for me to decide which I enjoy more – enjoying the dancing live, or revisiting the action in photos after the fact. I do love reviewing the photos, but being in the room with the music blasting, and the dresses whizzing across the floor right in front of you – it is an awesome experience that is impossible to replicate in stills or video. The photos are still excellent, but I have to admit, I have enjoyed both and cannot wait until the next opportunity to see dancers on the floor!

USA Dance Mid-Atlantic Championships

©TimeLine Media - ballroom dance photos

The TimeLine Media web server was busy this weekend with the Mid-Atlantic Championships phoots. Thanks especially to all of you that have visited! At this time, I was reminded that there is one even expiring this month, the USA Dance Mid-Atlantic Championships. This was a really nice competition of amateur dancers held at the North Bethesda Marriott last February 16-17, 2013. Because it was the first event of the year, we had lots of assistance with us, and we made many photos over the weekend. If you were there, or you know anyone that did attend, please send them the link to the event on our website to see their photos:

All photos are organized by dancer number so it should be easier to find your photos. However, if you need any help, send me an email. Additionally you can give me a call. I have been looking through these for a while now and am familiar with many of the faces on the website. We have two other dances coming up this month, so stay tuned for those photos coming up soon. If you have any other need for photos, let me know!

As with previous years, we caught up with many familiar faces. Being that this competition is close to home, we enjoy seeing the progress these dancers have made. Best of luck at Nationals!

Washington, DC venues

This has been a busy week of shoots for me. I have been assisting on some events, and shooting some of my own. While assisting, I always learn new things in order to be successful as a photographer. Luck has been on my side to find great photographers in the area that like my work enough to have me shoot along with them. With  some assignments this week, I have been to some of the nicest venues in the area. Washington, DC, being a city of decision making power, is the site of many conferences, events, and weddings. I have taken for granted so many of the things around here being a native of the area. So it has been nice to appreciate the opportunity to photograph many familiar landmarks from new angles. If it was only nicer weather this weekend, I may have been inspired to go out again. Oh, and I have to visit my mother.

Next door to the Hay Adams are other buildings with terrific views of the White House. There were lots of cameras and tents for television production setup permanently, but I did not see anyone broadcasting at the time. Now I know where all those “Reporting from Washington” views are filmed! I would be so distracted all the time if my outdoor view was Lafayette Park, the White House and the Washington Monument.
