I have just about finished with all the orders from this big shopping weekend. Firstly, thank you to everyone that visited the website to view and purchase photos from ballroom dance events that TimeLine Media has covered this year! The most popular event to view of course was the very recent Arthur Murray Fall Showcase. The day was a blur with all the activity, but my photographers and I made some great photos from morning until night. The event ends as all of them do with a showcase of the professional dancers that instruct the students at the studios. The first show that I’ll highlight on the blog is from the Arthur Murray – Columbia, Maryland studio:

We have seen these two in lots of shows and routines over the years, and we were happy to see them perform together again. In fact, they are in the middle of our first ballroom brag book that we created as a studio demo from a show that they performed some time ago. This routine was a beautiful rumba with some nice lines. The challenge for the rumba, keeping balance through moves that work the hips was displayed very well in this show. It can look deceivingly easy to dance except to the audience full of dancers that have all tried this style.

Small Business Saturday

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? The malls definitely saw a lot of traffic yesterday. We ventured out later in the day just to see how some of the malls handled the day! It must have been a hard day for the retail workers, so hopefully they can rest and recover soon! Some have dubbed today, “Small Business Saturday” encouraging people to shop at small, local stores in their communities. Although TimeLine Media does not have it’s own physical store front, we try our best to have everything running smoothly today for our customers that don’t want to venture out in the cold after shopping all day yesterday. We have all of the events from this year re-uploaded for you to view!

The year goes by so quickly! So many of you talked with us about forgetting the photos from previous events, so this is your second chance to view and share them. According to the website, there are over 160,000 images uploaded for viewing!  We have tried to make it easier to find your photos by categorizing them by studio, if you were at an Arthur Murray event, or by your partners number if you were in competitive heats. Please let me know if you need any help finding images you are looking for. I’d be happy to help!

©TimeLine Media - Arthur Murray 2013

I hear it is the biggest shopping day of the year! For Black Friday, all the photos from 2013 that TimeLine Media has covered have been re-released. All expired events are now back on the proofing website through the holidays. If they have been re-uploaded, they will be viewable until January 13, 2014!

We have made so many great images this year. It is a blessing, and a privilege to have access to capture these images of dancers both amateur and professional throughout the year. As a dancer, you are always learning and improving. Steps become more natural, patterns more easily done with your partner, your lines get straighter, you travel farther with each stride, you take up more of the floor with your routine.

The photographs document your progress. You can see how you used to dance, and see how far you have come. They freeze moments from the routine you worked on for months, to recall before the next time you perform.

They help you to celebrate your accomplishments, and point you in the direction you want to go next time. Maybe it is for a higher placing in the competition, maybe it is trying a new dance you have not tried, or maybe it is just refining what you already know.

These are the same things that I think about when setting out to photograph the next subject. I try to be at least as good as the last time, but I try to push and be better. Photography, like dancing, is a skill that you can always learn and improve. The journey can be frustrating, and you may not reach your goals every time you attempt, but there are lessons each time you get out there. And the results you come back with may surprise you. Thank you to all the dancers, studios, and friends that have been on the other side of our lenses!
