Student Routines

This time, they had a beautiful holiday-theme red curtain as a background. At first I was not sure if this would work for the photos. Given that is becomes much brighter in my strobe flashes, I thought it would be too similar to the dancers. However, I think it worked nicely!

Overall, red is a color that pops from digital camera sensors. Although that is usually a good thing, I was worried it would overwhelm here. However, I think it worked very well! Being that it was the holidays, the red fit the event theme, and it was a complimentary background to many of the dresses. Thanks to Marielle and Carlos for inviting us this year!

Whenever you see students and teacher dance well, they have a look of accomplishment on both sides. To say nothing of the work that they put in to create and practice a routine repeatedly in the studio. Pulling off what they worked for the audience is very satisfying. Obviously, this makes for nice photos as they settle into the routine and hit all their marks.

Hilton McLean

Another event for the DC Area studios was held at the Hilton McLean. When we arrive the staff at this hotel is very accommodating to the vendors. Obviously we need electricity, tables, and chairs, and we were quick to get setup for this one-day event.

Boyds, Maryland Wedding

Today is my 11^th wedding anniversary! How appropriate that I will post some images from a recent wedding. These images tell the story of a beautiful late summer / early autumn Saturday. Friends and family gathered to see these two say their vows and celebrate a new marriage. I could not be there to make these photos as I was booked on another wedding, but luckily I have great colleagues that can go in my place that I trust. I love how these images turned out. In looking through them, I really regret that I could not have been there myself to photograph a lovely couple and their great group of friends. The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek in Boyds, Maryland was a nice setting both indoors and out to have the ceremony and reception. Enjoy!

Thanks to Bill from Bill Bauer Photography for the great images. It is always a blessing to have great colleagues and friends to work with. Also, thank you to my friend Nerea from Aeren Waters who recommended me to cover this wedding. Having work friends that keep you in mind for photography work is very helpful! Please check out her website to see her fashion work that she is creating. It is a completely different from her day job, but I know it is a great outlet for her creativity. I’ll have a blog post soon about her work.Now, I have to get ready for an anniversary dinner!
