Ealier this year, I covered the Arconic Fairfax HQ announcement at the Tower Club in Tysons. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority planned for some good photos due to the guest list. Regardless of political views, it is a privilege to photograph a sitting governor. On this occasion, he was announcing the agreement with manufacturing company Arconic. Shortly they will relocate their headquarters to Fairfax County. Since this is was a deal that involved many high level government entities, this event was a milestone attended by many VIPs. Dr. Jerry Gordon from the FCEDA, Supervisors, State Delegates, and lastly the Governor of the Commonwealth came to speak.
Last week, the Tysons Partnership held the 2018 Tysons Open House at the Basis Independent McLean school. As can be seen in the photos, this is a modern school for early education to high school students. Not only did they have a main open hallway for the event, they also had an auditorium, and convention space for vendors and sponsors to setup booths.
2018 Tysons Open House
At this point, I was familiar with the Basis Independent location in Tysons, as they displayed lots of advertising in the area. Moreover, representatives have attended many events in the area. Since I had never been onsite before, I arrived as early as possible to do some scouting. In this case the Tysons Partnership had an extensive setup throughout the school. I set some extra lighting to illuminate such a large space! Afterwards, I really enjoyed reviewing the photos from this event. Not only was it a new venue to photograph but having familiar faces in the crowd made it a fun event to cover.
Last week I photographed a 2018 April Lunch and Learn for the Tysons Partnership. On this occasion the topic was ‘Collaborative Approaches to Urban Parks and Public Space in Tysons’. With this in mind, this event really illustrates the mission of the Partnership. During the panel discussion, many partners from Fairfax County, the architects, developers, and property mangers explained recent successes.
Collaboration among many players is needed at this time. Before these large development projects are started, buy in from those involved will ensure their needs are fulfilled years before completion. It was interesting as an observer to hear how these issues are resolved. Without a doubt this is a privilege to see these highly intelligent and motivated leaders make these things happen. Further, I am excited to see these changes come to Tysons!
For the photos, I set up one flash through an umbrella. As can be seen this was a very large room! Thankfully the large white walls helped to fill it in the exposure.
