The Tysons Chamber held the 2020 Board Installation last week at the Tysons Tower Club. Indeed he is building on projects started last year to grow the Chamber. Likewise he had the support of a larger board to attain these ambitious goals. During his presentation, he encouraged involvement even if it would be new for the coming year.

On this occasion, a panel comprised of member-companies discussed their experiences with the Chamber. ‘Connections that Matter’ is the tagline on all of the materials for events. In brief, the workshops, mixers, and committees foster the opportunities for making these connections. The panel explained these connections, and how they have contributed to their success.

Networking is of course a big part of attending. After the ‘hard part’ of the swearing in, connections were starting immediately. Best of luck in 2020!

Soaring Tysons Spaces

Vita Tower

Just driving through the area, it’s easy to see the soaring Tysons spaces going up into the northern Virginia sky. The team from Macerich asked if I could make some photos of the Vita Tower. This is a new luxury apartment tower opening soon next to Tysons Corner Center. It is the closest to 123, and the most visible to those passing through the area.

For these photos, I went up to the 30th floor of the Vita. Undoubtedly it is the tallest floor above Tysons right now with a view into downtown Washington, DC. On this floor are a lot of recreation areas for residents to use. There are TVs, tables, lounging chairs, and a pool. When the weather is not good, there are interior space available. There is a kitchen, bar, and lounge with TVs and views over the area. The residences in this building must be high end given that this common area had high end design all around. This will be a definite selling point for this property!

Tower Club – Tysons

Across the Tysons Corner Center from the Vita Tower is the Towers Crescent building. It was a soaring space in Tysons since the 1980s. My architect father would frequently comment about this Philip Johnson building when we were in the area. For another client request, I was given access to photograph from their outside spaces. I cannot help thinking this view will change drastically over the next few years!

Snow and Ice!

©TimeLine Media - December ice storm

The news this passed week was full of stories about snow and ice blanketing most of the US as winter weather moved across the entire continent. In just watching the football games on TV yesterday, there were so many teams playing in wet and snowy conditions. Here in the DC area, we finally received our part of the storm, but we did brave the conditions to cover our previously scheduled events. This morning, though, we are having intermittent power issues, so I did not want to risk losing photos and work, and have shut down the computers for now. I went out and took some photos of the icy trees and other structures in the area as I looked for a warm place to work.

There are some beautiful scenes out there with the ice still coating all the trees! The branches have highlights making them stick out from the shadows as the sun hits them. Unfortunately, this is why the power companies are working hard today – there are many branches coming down with the added weight. All the images were from what is becoming my favorite camera these days, the Fuji X100s – it just works! I’ll have my frustrations on a future blog post. Enjoy these images in the meantime!
