DC Dance Challenge

Our next ballroom dance event will be this upcoming Sunday – the 2013 DC Dance Challenge. We have covered this event for a number of years, and we enjoy the day of dancing at the beautiful Spanish Ballroom in Glen Echo park. Not to put too much of a damper on the excitement, but due to the Federal government shutdown, the regular venue may be unavailable. The organizers will still hold the event on Sunday, but there may be a change of place since the park will be closed, and there will be no access to the ballroom.

Knowing the bigger picture, this is small in comparison to the effect of the shutdown on the thousands of federal workers. Especially in the local area that we live and work, we know that this will be a tough week. In any case, the event will go on Sunday, but stay tuned to the DC Dance Challenge website for updates on the venue. We are hopeful that the shutdown will end for those who depend on the government for their livelihood. In addition, we would love to go back to the Spanish Ballroom for the uniqueness and beauty of the room. Here are some images from last year’s event showing off the space-

Sheraton Tysons

The web server has been especially busy this weekend! Of course we have to thank everyone that has visited to view the photos from the DC Area Arthur Murray Fall Freestyles. There has been lots of views, and we especially appreciate everyone that has placed orders for prints and digital downloads. Your support helps to keep the servers running, and to make quality of the photos the best that we can offer.

Swing Professional Show

We love to feature the professional showcases that close out these events on the blog. The floor is cleared of all dancers, and the attention of all the students, staff, judges, and guests are on the instructors that have worked to put together a routine to show off their best! In full disclosure, we are biased. We first started learning to ballroom dance at the Arthur Murray in Tysons Corner, and we have learned so much from the instructors that have worked there. This show by Carlos and Allison was amazing, and we wanted to get up and dance right after them! The Swing was “The Heart of Rock and Roll” by Huey Lewis and the News. A great song, and a great routine.

If you would like to view the show in video form, please visit the new Arthur Murray Tysons YouTube page! I love the comparison of the same event in still and motion. Comparatively, I learn so much about my shooting and setup in looking at the differences. I will blog more about this in future posts, but selfishly, I’m just happy to be able to watch the entire thing without looking through the viewfinder the whole time! It is a different experience live, in still photos, and on video, and I enjoyed comparing each. If you want to see all the photos from the event, that have been posted to the proofing site- http://proofs.timelinedc.com

Sunday – Download Day

Springfield, Virginia

It has been a busy week and weekend! Another Sunday, and another day to download lots of cards. Thankfully, I have finished with all the ballroom dance photos from the Arthur Murray Fall Freestyles, but on to more events. Yesterday was the Northern Virginia Magazine NoVA Fashion Show at the Springfield Golf and Country Club. I have passed it in the car many times, but this was my first time visiting. It is a beautiful and convenient venue to hold events! Close to 95, and 495, but far enough away that when you drive onto the grounds, it no longer looks like you are in the bustling suburbs. The entrance area was very warm with beautiful chandeliers lighting the large hallways. Their Grand Ballroom had a beautiful view of the golf course, and was a perfect setting for the final event for the NoVA Fashion series. I will be working on these photos next, but I think the designers, stylists, and models will like these photos once they are done. Stay tuned!

I will have more from the show at this event, as well as some of the other nice settings around the club. They had a nice presentation of food for the event, and I hope to be back to photograph soon. The staff was very professional ready to host any type of occasion where a high nice venue with a beautiful setting is needed. Since I am done with download day, I have to go forward with the photo processing!
