Happy Birthday!

Chinese Checkers board

Happy 75th birthday to my mother! I know she is busy today hosting family, opening birthday cards, and answering phone messages from all over the place. She has always been one of the hardest working people I know – taking care of her patient’s medical issues, providing for her family large and small, and making sure I didn’t mess up too badly while I was growing up could not have been easy. It makes me strive to be better at what I am doing because she was able to do so much with what she was given.

All around town her old patients still stop her to say hello, and catch up with what has been going on with them since she retired, and what happened to all the babies she delivered during her career. At one point, she had collage made from the baby photos that were sent to her office. She ended up making 3 – four-foot framed pieces, and there were still photos left over!

She is now happily retired and has taken to many hobbies – reading, learning to use the internet, and photography. She used a 16GB on her last trip! Yes, I try to help her with photos, but it’s mostly hardware. She like to borrow my lenses – here is her self portrait in my left eye!

Yes, she still has a large porcine collectible library, and she loves to challenge people to Chinese Checkers. Be prepared to bring your ‘A’ game, it is no joke to try to clear your side with her blocking your every move.

But she is always finding new things to try, never scared to experiment and try new things. I wish her a happy birthday and look forward to many more!

River City Ballroom photos expiring soon

©TimeLine Media - 2013 River City Ballroom Dance Competition

This is the second year that I have not been able to be there in person to photograph the River City Ballroom Dance Competition. Regretfully we are double-booked with events these weekends at this time. But I made sure that they still received quality photography from one of my associate photographer, Nick.

Since he is a resident of Richmond, VA, it was easy for him to cover this event for us. I received the photos from him and did all the post-processing of the images before being uploaded to the proofing site. This was so that everyone will have a consistent experience when viewing and ordering photos from TimeLine Media. He captured lots of great photos of the routines and the competition throughout the day. Moreover, I am glad that many of you found your photos. Additionally thanks for placing orders to keep! The photos will be available to view at the proofing website until July 29, 2013:

Photographic Gifts

©TimeLine Media - source files for greeting cards

It is my mother’s birthday on Monday! I have given her many photo gifts as you can imagine – from canvas prints, to albums, to prints mounted into frames. This year, I am giving her something that she requested a while ago. She really like to send out greeting cards for birthdays and holidays, but she cannot find ones that have lines printed on the inside for writing. It seems like this would be something that would be easy to find! So for her birthday, I made some custom cards. The photos were of flowers from the garden at her house that her brother manages. He is quite talented with caring for these – I am trying to learn his tricks! Most of the printing houses online can print both the outside and inside of cards in case you want to add text to the inside of the card. Instead of text, I just added a page with lines that my mom could use to write her notes.

Then, I made some covers for the cards with the flower photos. I took my longer than I want to admit to make sure the flowers were on the correct side as they were folded. It was not until I saw the cards delivered that I was completely sure I did it correctly.

I also wanted to ensure that they printed well on the paper. Optical prints are printed on photographic paper, either matte or glossy, and I am familiar with how my images look out of Lightroom translated to that kind of paper. The cards are pre-press printed onto card stock. Check with your lab before you print to see how to setup you software to soft proof how they will look prior to ordering. There are some slight change you may have to make in contrast and sharpening to ensure a good transfer. These turned out nicely! I hope my mom enjoys them. Maybe I’ll start a greeting card business line.
