Today is my 42nd birthday! Although it looks like this is just another post from the mall, it is an appropriately personal post too. Last week was the opening of Tysons Then and Now, a project done by me and Pindar Van Arman.

VIP Attendees

In addition to the County executives, Congressman Connolly, and mall management, Pindar and I invited our family to attend the opening. My mom made the trip to see the exhibition that included some robot painted pieces using my photography as a reference. As much as my mom appreciates what I do, it was nice to have her see my work as part of this attention-grabbing exhibit. Likewise, I felt proud to be part of the team that produced such amazing work! Thanks, Becca, for adding me and my photos to a cool look at Tysons!

Tysons Corner Center

Last week, I covered the opening of the Change It Up Pop Up at Tysons Corner Center. Presented by the Hair Cuttery, this was a color-overload activation at the mall! Since the pop up is only open until September 3, there was a packed house with pre-registered guests that were there on opening night. Hair Cuttery founder Dennis Ratner was in attendance on this occasion before they bring this to other locations around the country. Because the Rattner Companies is based in Tysons, and the first location for the salon was in nearby Springfield, it makes sense this was their first stop. As can be seen in the photos, this was the most colorful pop up I have photographed at the mall! Instagrammers should take advantage while it is still open.

2018 2nd Quarter Media

Tysons Corner Center

Over the last couple of months, I completed a number of shoots to capture 2018 2nd Quarter Media at Tysons Corner Center. Surely the mall changes as time goes by both in stores and in advertising. But I never really noticed as closely until now. With all the changes, the Macerich marketing team wanted me to get photos of the special events and temporary retail spaces along with the changes in media.

From a photography standpoint, these kinds of assignments slow me down. Generally in a good way! Of course I would like to have people in the frame so that the clients see a good number of eyes on their media. Additionally, I usually shoot these on a tripod. This keeps the lines straight, and can slow the shutter speed down to get a blur as people walk through the frame.
