Last Saturday was the 2016 River City Ballroom Dance Competition. Despite having a packed photography schedule last weekend, we got help to cover everything. Compared to last year, the ballroom was full of dancers and spectators! Following the event, we came home, edited, and sorted the photos for you:
Whenever we get the invitation from Veronica to attend their event, we get happy to start the ballroom dance year. As can be seen in some of these photos, the ballroom was very full this year! Certainly Veronica, Lee and the Simply Ballroom studio has been working hard to grow their event. Seeing that new faces attend along with consistent attendees is encouraging! Without a doubt they are increasing the awareness of partner dancing. With this purpose in mind, they are expanding their influence and elevating dancing in the Richmond area.
Last March we took another trip south to Richmond to cover the 2015 River City Ballroom Dance Competition. We really enjoy coming to visit Veronica and Lee for their event since they are so friendly and really treat us like part of their dance family. Therefore, we try to do our best to make their guests look great on the dance floor. They are the owners of Simply Ballroom in Richmond, VA. They have a nice core group of studios that come to support this event. It was held at the Doubletree Hilton in Midlothian, VA. There are some familiar faces from studios in northern Virginia that we see year after year. It is nice to catch up with familiar faces. Of course they have new dresses and costumes to go along with new routines.
Dancers come from Maryland, North Carolina, and other independent studios in Virginia. For the heats danced, they were evaluated by Kirill Gorjatsev and Daria Zotova of DK Ballroom. After dinner, Daria and Kirill gave us a great show to end the event with some inspiration. To highlight the professional performance, I changed the setup of the lights to be a little more dramatic.
Professional Show
Adding some grids to my flashes helped to keep the light controlled to a smaller section of the room. As a result, the color costumes that Daria wore to pop! During the dinner break, I really tested this setup to make sure that it would work. However, you never really know how it will go until the dancers get out there!
So many thank need to be given for today’s post! It is so helpful to have other photographers that can cover events for you. With the Spring season finally here, there are many events where organizers are looking for great images. This passed weekend, I assisted in shooting a wedding with one photographer friend, while two others had to cover a big event for me. It is so nice to have a network of professionals that you can count on to help if you are booked, and to help with their projects if you have a free weekend!
River City Dancesport Competition
This event, the River City Ballroom Dance Competition held in Richmond, VA is another one of those times. I was covering an event this same weekend, so Jae stepped up and traveled to photograph this event for TimeLine Media. He did a great job capturing all the dancers as they danced in competitive heats, and in their choreographed showcase routines.
So many of the dancers have come to the website to see their photos, and we have to thank them especially for supporting our photography by purchasing prints and digital files from the event! THANK YOU! There is an early-bird special that has been in effect for the first 2 weeks after the photos went live, and it expires today. This is the 20% off discount on anything purchased from the site.
The photos will not be removed from the site until August. You can continue to view and share all the images to friends or other dancers that attended the event until then. Only the discount will disappear tonight. We sorted the photos by dancer number on the website. If we made any mistakes, or if you are having trouble finding your photos, please let me know. Firstly, you can send me an email – rassi at timelinedc.com. Additionally, you can give me call – 703.864.8208 and I would be happy to help you. I have a lot of new and fun images to share on the blog from this weekend. Stay tuned for more of those!
