Ballroom Dance photos

Now that we are in a new year we are preparing to make more ballroom dance photos. On this occasion, we are looking back on photos from the 2012 USA Dance Mid-Atlantic Championships. At this time, the event will be February 16 – 17, 2013.

This year’s event will be held at the Marriott North Bethesda Hotel & Conference Center in Bethesda, MD. We plan to be there, to make more great ballroom dance photos! In case you are planning on dancing, please come say hello. While we try to get everyone out on the floor, it will help us to identify who wants us to follow them. Especially those that are familiar with our work, please give us some feedback. Lastly, best of luck in your final practices! Focus on getting your figures just right for the judges, and we’ll take care of the photos.

2012 Mid-Atlantic Championships

If you stumbled upon my website, you most likely came here looking for your ballroom dance photos. We have been dancing for 8 years, and we enjoy this hobby to get out of the house. Additionally, it will challenge the mind for a few nights a week. This hobby, much like photography, has led to getting more involved than we ever planned. But we have met so many nice dancers. Moreover we have enjoyed capturing them on the dance floors, both professional and not. These photos are from the 2012 USA Dance Mid-Atlantic Championships.

We have been privileged to be the official photographers for this event every year since 2009. It is held in Bethesda, Maryland ever year for amateur couples looking for comments from judges and acquiring points for Nationals at this National Qualifying Event. Every year, we get some of our best photos of the year from the dancers there. Of course we look forward to this competition! If you are at all interested in ballroom dance, this is a great event to attend to watch or get your feet wet if you are contemplating competing with your partner in a large competition. Competition dancing is inspiring to watch and these dancers will give you something to shoot for you in your own dancing.

American Dancer article

In the latest issue of American Dancer Magazine, one of my photos was published in an article about the USA Dance Mid-Atlantic Championships. I have had the privilege of photographing the dancers at this event for the last three years! This competition is one of the last qualifying events prior to the USA Dance National Dancesport Champioships. I have to thank Joe Huesmann for giving us the opportunity to cover the event at the beginning. Additional he has supported our photography efforts over the years. Also thanks to Jack Reinhold, President of the USA Dance DC Chapter for wanting to use some of our images for his article in the magazine.

This year, the event was held a great venue, the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. The ballroom really responded well to our setup, and the photos from that weekend were dynamic for all divisions!

In this photo, the dancers were almost a third of the way down the floor from my position. Seeing them dance previously, I knew this was a line they would hit and hold for a few seconds. In post processing, I added a sepia tone and vignette to emphasize the dancers away from the busy ballroom background.
