Arthur Murray Columbia – Poster Winner

Chantilly, Virginia

I do not know where the time went, but the Spring Showcase really sprung up on me. There was not as much time to get the votes and promote the voting for the poster contest before yesterday’s Spring Showcase. In any event, there were still some that came to view the “aged photo” contest at the TimeLine Media Facebook page. It was again an easy win for the dancers from the Arthur Murray Columbia, MD studio for the photo of the Tango professional show.

These two dancers have performed many shows for the local Arthur Murray studios, and we have even run into them at competitions outside the region. They are an awesome pair to photograph! Not only do they dance these smooth dancers well, but they have also competed and performed Rhythm shows. We have no doubt that they are inspiring other instructors and student alike with their dancing.

Not only is their dancing technique very strong, but they also have some of the best costumes and hair design! Having the complete look is important for dancers on the competition floor. Placement of head pieces, having stones in place correctly on the dress, having hair that does not distract, but still catches the eye really makes an impression on judges and the audience. In every show, these two put the work in to make sure they are ready show ready every time. There are always multiple images from each show that I could use for posters to display! This post has just some of the others that could have been as easily substituted.

Arthur Murray – Showcase Week

Arthur Murray Silver Spring, MD - ©TimeLine Media

Chantilly, Virginia

Today, I am back to work after the long holiday weekend. Overall we had nice weather, and we took advantage of the luck by spending a lot of time outside. The big project to work on for this week of course is the upcoming DC Area Arthur Murray Summer Showcase. It will be held this Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Hilton McLean in Tysons Corner, VA. Similarly to our other events, the photos will be posted to the proofing website about a week after the event here:

Foxtrot Professional Show

The photos on today’s post are from a Foxtrot performed by the Arthur Murray Silver Spring, Maryland studio. These two have been regulars on the blog as they do many shows to end these events. We have also seen them competing in open professional competitions together, so they are very well-practiced for the spotlight.

In their shows, they display their artistry and story-telling along with their technical skills. This Foxtrot had some beautiful lines that matched with the music. From my position, I was able to get a lot of these poses nicely as they moved around the floor.

These two add new wrinkles to their shows as they continue to progress in their dancing. Even though we have seen them dance so many shows in previous events, there is always something new that pops up with each routine. It continues to make them a crowd favorite with the students and staff from the other studios. I always look forward to see what they come with when I see them on the program. More shows like this will be on display this weekend. I’ll be ready!

Arthur Murray Chevy Chase – Rumba Professional Show

Rumba Professional Show - ©TimeLine Media

Chantilly, Virginia

Today’s post features photos from a Rumba pro show by the Arthur Murray Chevy Chase studio. Overall this studio consistently has a professional couple perform at the end of these events. It shows that they are supporting each other by helping and observing their practices. Above all, their shows are entertaining for the audiences. This show in particular incorporated steps that are taught in the studios to the students making it accessible and relatable to the audience.

The skill in performing these figures is what separates it from our practice steps! Their swivels, keeping their feet position correct – these subtleties are what makes this a show that you would review as you aspire to improve your dancing. Additionally, I hope to keep such a strong core body position in dancing Rumba. Many of the figures have such similar components that it makes it difficult to lead in a way that the lady can follow easily. In this performance, these two were both strong in keeping their position making for some especially nice lines in the photos.

This weekend we are preparing to take our photography on the road. We are going to make another collection of dance photos, so going through our last event is helping me get into the dance frame-of-mind. I am hoping that we can setup the lighting in similar positions given that I liked the results. The balance between the front and backlighting for these was perfect for the floor this size. Concurrently, the back lighting was not too strong to flare in the camera, and the front lighting was even across the floor. It allowed me to just concentrate on following the dancers, and made the post processing very fast.
