Tysons Corner – Holiday Events

The weekends are the busiest times in local malls! The Tysons Corner Center has been having a lot of events especially for kids with the Christmas holiday coming up. They asked me to come by to take some photos for some of these events including the National Geographic Kids Club play area that was setup with face painting, sliders from BGR – The Burger Joint, and hosted by Tommy McFly from 94.7 Fresh FM.

There were lots of activities for kids to work on with their parents. It must have been a nice distraction for parents that needed to get some shopping finished! There was a nice crowd that participated, and everyone took advantage of all the activities.

I do have to say being in the mall this much at the holidays has been fun! They have had a lot of good parking assistants in all of the lots around the mall, so it has not been too much trouble to get in and out of the place. They are schedule to have a German Christmas Market this upcoming weekend, and I will be there to get more holiday photos. For the next post from the mall, I’ll share some of the photos from the Santa breakfast that was held on a snowy morning. I am still editing these as well as other events that I have in the queue. I am not behind in working, but the power outages on Monday has delayed me just a bit!

Tysons, Virginia

If you have recently been to the Tysons Corner Center in McLean, VA, you may have noticed the new HGTV pop-up store that has opened in the Fashion Court near Bloomingdale’s and L.L. Bean. This showroom has many examples of the latest materials and designs for home furnishings featured on their television network.

Inside the store is an array of resources for your home design needs. There are designers available to discuss your specific projects, and they can show you examples of paint, flooring, and lighting right in the store. On Saturday, this was a busy place. Lots of guests came by to feel the materials hanging in the displays, and getting ideas on how to change their interiors.

Just outside the store by the elevator, HGTV has also setup some furniture and displays with their programming. Resting shoppers can be inspired by more of their design choices. They have a nice D.C. autumn backdrop where you can make photo and send to your email with their photo booth!

It is here that designer Taniya Nayak made an appearance to meet fans of her shows. She took lots of time to meet with everyone that waited in line to see her. Some brought pictures of their on-going projects to get ideas. With each one that came by, she took lots of time to meet, sign autographs, and give her design advice.

It was a pleasure to meet her and the staff that worked at the pop-up showroom. If you are in the middle of a home design project, you should definitely stop by before November 8. The store will then move on from this location, so take advantage of the opportunity before then!

Tysons Corner – Garage C

Finally the clouds have gone away! I was able to go out and get some photos of the some of the development projects being done in the Tysons Corner area. At first is a photo of a cluster of buildings looking south from Garage C of the Tysons Corner Center. I think this would make a great background for portraits and would love to try sometime! Similarly to shooting nature landscapes, early morning or early evening has the best light for these types of photos. There is still blue in the sky, However, the light is coming at an angle. This adds dimension to the photos, as well as creates reflected lights in the windows. Once the sun moves high into the sky, you lose this as all the windows turn black. Also the harsh shadows turns your creative landscape photo into an ordinary snapshot.

Tysons Corner – Garage E

The recently completed HOT lanes from 495 have opened, and the Metro train lines are moving along quickly. From the Tysons Corner mall garages, you can get a good view of the Metro construction along with the new Tysons Tower. According to their website the new tower will rise high above the area providing panoramic views to DC. Many DC landmarks can already be seen from the parking garage where I took this photo. The ISO was set at 50, and the aperture was set at f/11. I used this for the best quality raw file to work with, and to keep allow for a higher shutter speed. The exposure time for this photo was 4 seconds which gives a nice blur to the moving cranes in the scene, and the workers moving around on the ground.

Here the sun was still not over the horizon, so there is some nice color in the sky. To balance the light in the scene, I processed the photo in Adobe Lightroom, and adjusted the mid tones to bring out some of the darker parts of the construction area to bring out more of the details in the photo. It will be nice to come back to this spot to see how the building progresses.  Thanks to the Tysons Corner for suggesting some ideas for shooting spots!
