It’s Arthur Murray Freestyles week! This Friday and Saturday, the DC Area Arthur Murray dance studios will be hosting their first ballroom dance event of 2013 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The event will include two days of dancing as well as a team match pitting Maryland vs. Virginia on Saturday afternoon. These are some of the most unique photos we take in the ballroom! Crazy costumes, people whipped into a frenzy putting on their best moves to claim the Potomac Cup. I will surely have some of these images for you next week as I go through the edits.

Just to update you on the photos at the proofing website, the photos from the 2012 DC Dance Challenge are expiring today. This week, I am editing photos from the 2013 Baltimore DanceSport Challenge, and plan to have these up by Saturday. More updates will be posted either on the blog, or at the Facebook page.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Since there are so many photos going up, coming down, in progress, I know it can be a lot to manage. However, I do have a good handle on where everything is, and will help anyone if they need. Thank you!

Just a quick note today that the DC Area Arthur Murray Fall Freestyles photos from September 28 – 28, 2012 are expiring on the proofing website on Monday, March 4, 2013. This will be the last chance to view these on the website. It is an extra charge in order to find your photos at a later date, but it is possible to get them out of the electronic archive. To view the photos, they are still available on the website here:

The next Arthur Murray dance event that we will be covering will be their 2013 Spring Freestyles held March 22 – 23, 2013 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. Please leave me some feedback on the photos if you have viewed them. It helps us to adjust how we cover these events. Generally we have an idea of what we think looks good. Additionally, we put our photographers in a good position to get the best angles while being out of the way of the audience. However, we always look to improve. Especially since we cover so many of the events in the DC area, and we are familiar with so many of the staff, we want to contribute to their great events!

Photo Collages

Although these photos are from Arthur Murray events, I have a different dance event on the schedule. We are really getting excited to get back to another ballroom dance event this weekend. We’ll be at the UPenn Classic in Philadelphia, PA. Come by to see the dancers – we’ll be there to make some great photos! I really like the collages for posting on the blog too. I’ll keep tweaking the settings on here. Let me know what you think!

Of course, I enjoy making these little collections, but there is a website – reason for creating them. Although most of our photos from dance events are made in portrait orientation, there is a penalty for posting these online. As an illustration, try viewing a portrait-oriented photo versus one made in a landscape orientation. Overall, the landscape one will fill the screen more. Especially on widescreen computer monitors, this makes a larger impact. With this in mind, these little collections allow me to show off some vertical photos across the screen. Let me know if this works on how you view these!
