April 1

Today is April 1 or April Fool’s Day which has officially become the most annoying day to be on the internet. I won’t try any fancy computer tricks to make your browser act crazy or have any whacky gimmicks on my website today. With this in mind, I will post more of my favorite ballroom dance photos, then go back to being offline for the rest of the day. I am sure everything will return to normal tomorrow.

With this in mind, here are more of my favorites from this year’s Baltimore Dancesport Challenge that was held at the BWI Westin in Baltimore, MD. All the photos from this event are available to view at the proofing website here:

At this point, I am more than annoyed at falling for some of these pranks. Especially in the photography community, it can be easy to be taken in by some creative Photoshop work. April 1 really turned me negative early in the morning. Perhaps my brain was not quite awake to pick up on the subtle cues of a prank. Back to implementing creativity for good – Enjoy!

Sunday Break

Red-Dahlia-www.timelinedc.com

Has Spring finally arrived? We were out pulling weeds and getting the garden ready yesterday, so it sure feels very close! It has been a busy week, and today feels like a good day for a break from the usual Sunday. Happy Easter to all that celebrate, and thanks for stopping by the blog! I think I’ll try and make more photos today. Stay tuned to see if I come with anything good.

For this post, I went back to find some recent spring blooms that I have come across. Although it is not usually recommended to crank color sliders in your post processing programs, I could not help it for these. Are they over cooked to you? Overall, red pops in digital images, so it is easy to go overboard with it. However, I could not help it with the dahlia image. Perhaps the bright yellow center is a nice contrast to the surrounding color.

For the daffodils in the flower arrangement, it was not as much the yellow that I boosted, but the blues and greens. This is usually avoided in photos with people as it destroys skin tones. However, I like how all the colors mix together in this frame. Don’t be afraid to push the color!

As can be seen in the photos, Austin has a presence while dancing to involve the crowd. Since he has dance so many of these shows, he knows how to put on a show for the audience. From behind the camera, I appreciated the coordination of his shirt with her dress. Because I have been putting photo collages together, I automatically know what color to highlight with them! Additionally, there was some variation in the lighting of these photos.

This variation comes from the signal for the lights to flash. In some cases the back light did not fire creating a much different image. With a darker background, the dancers really pop out of the frame. Obviously, the light is hitting them directly while leaving the rest of the frame dark. This can result when I trip the camera shutter too quick for the light. Or the signal from the remote does not reach all the way across the room!
