Tysons Corner Center

Earlier this Fall, I photographed 2017 Washington Nationals Clinic at the Bullpen. In case you did not know, Tysons Corner Center has a beautiful baseball practice facility hidden in its ground floor! Making use of a previous movie theater space, the Bullpen is altogether a unique space in Tysons. On this occasion, the Washington Nationals conducted a clinic for local Little League teams with some coaches from their academy.

The Plaza

Continuing the partnership with the Washington Nationals, the mall made both the Bullpen and the Plaza available to the team. Certainly the Running Presidents grab a lot of attention as they are literally larger than life, and instantly recognizable as team ambassadors. Of course this crowd was glad to interact with them! After the clinic, the group went up to the Plaza for a showing of the evening game against the Mets. It was a full day of baseball action in Tysons!

Valo Park – Tysons, VA

Envisioning the future is important for the plans for Tysons. With this in mind, the Tysons Chamber created a new signature event, the 2017 Tysons 2050. At this time the event was separated into Live, Work and Play sections. Community leaders in these areas talked about how they see Tysons in light of the decisions being made today.

Valo Park was a perfect venue to illustrate a vision of the future. After all the region is growing quickly in 2017. Moreover it could be a metropolis 33 years into the future. In the vendor area, high technology companies displayed new products. Together with the speakers, this sparked interesting conversations in the venue. With attention to the future, I felt privileged to be documenting the evening. Regardless of how things look in 2050, events like this will keep the long view shorter as we roll along.

2017 Shoes4Kids Lunch – Tysons Partnership

Dunn Loring Fire Station 13

Last month, I photographed another event for the Tysons Partnership. On this occasion, they gathered all the shoe donations for their 2017 Shoes4Kids lunch at the Dunn Loring fire station. Since this was my first time at this fire station, I was surprised at the venue! As can be seen in the photos, we were right in the middle of their fire engine garage. It was an impressive space with enormous garage doors to accommodate their vehicles. For photos, this was a perfect setup!

If you have to photograph an event indoors, the large open doors provided all the lighting I needed. In short, this created an open shade lighting scenario. With the dark ceiling overhead, the large openings let strong but diffuse light bounce around the space. Faces, objects, and anything else inside is nicely rendered without much effort! Hopefully all of my future Tysons Partnership events will be as easy to cover.
