Reston, Virginia

Last year, I did a Virid Office Shoot in Reston, Virginia. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority wanted some updated images of real office spaces. In this case, their top floor office space was an open and contemporary setting for the modern workplace.

Whereas their office entrance is a clean, cement-floored minimalist space, their work area is much more warm. Although it is an open area with no walls between workstations, everyone customized their area with personal decorations. From a photography standpoint, this a nice contrast with their entrance areas. At this time, I used some off camera flashes to bring the faces out from the background. Using this technique also allowed the balance of the monitor light to equal the window light so nothing was overexposed.

Finally, I want to thank the employees from Virid that volunteered for the shoot. Having a photographer around for part of the day had to be distracting, but they had some fun with the shoot. Also, thanks to the FCEDA for assisting in the coordination for the shoot and guiding the setups. I look forward to the next one!

Professional Showcases

To conclude this event, the staff at the studios put on a great holiday show! Certainly the holiday season is easy to tap for themed dances. Not only are the colors for the costumes recognizable, but the music can also tie-in. At the same time, the Ashburn formation wore flannel to channel a cold winter day.

Lastly, I wanted to highlight the Columbia, Maryland studio group formation. The danced a Waltz to an a cappella holiday track. For me, this was a strong performance. The choreography matched well with the music, and the dancing was coordinate so well among them. Being that they do not have a lot of time to rehearse in the space, it was well spaced on the floor. Even though they were in group, they also had some speed through their movement. Their changes in direction made it look like a holiday decoration!

2019 Tysons Tower

Tysons, Virginia

Last month, I had a Headshot Day event at the Tysons Tower. The idea for this day came from the Macerich and Hines team in Tysons. Above all, they wanted to have me be a part of their programming for the tenants in the building. To that end, I would offer to be setup in a conference room for the day, and anyone who is in the building could sign up for a mini session.

Prior to this day, I had only been in the Tysons Tower a couple of times. Moreover, most of those times were on the penthouse rooftop area. By comparison, this conference was on a couple of floors above the Plaza. When I first arrived, I thought about having an option of having a natural background. However, the setup would not be as flexible. For one thing, the lighting would have to be adjusted for each person. Additionally, I was unsure what the preference would be for those coming by. It would be too difficult to switch between the two. The conference room had plenty of space for my background, and lighting. With this in mind, I thought it would be easier to just use the seamless white background. If someone wanted a different background, that could be done afterwards.
