Long Exposures – New Jersey State Open

Another busy weekend with a lot of new photos! I am still working on the Paragon Open photos, and hope to have those up during the week. Thanks to everyone that has already visited and placed order from the New Jersey State Open. There is an early-bird 20% off sale on all items until November 18, 2013. No coupon code is necessary as the website already takes into account the discount when you check out. The link to those photos is here:

Of course the majority of my ballroom dance photos are taken with as fast a shutter speed as I can. This freezes the action, and makes for sharp photos. This is the biggest challenge in ballroom dance photography as there is usually not as much light as the camera would like, and the dancers are moving quickly! To accentuate this, we made some extreme long exposure photos during the event. The one above was the longest at almost 2 seconds. It doesn’t sound like much, but look at the difference between most of our other photos! This was taken during a popular general dance song, so there are many couples on the floor. Here is one during a smooth heat:

This was only about 1 second. It really shows how fleeting the dance moments can be! All the more reason to put as much effort as you can to preserve them in the camera.
