Arthur Murray Poster Contest Winners – DC Area Photography

Arthur Murray Dance Studios - Columbia, MD - ©TimeLine Media

Last Friday I counted the votes from the first TimeLine Media photo poster contest. On the Facebook page, I posted 6 different posters from the Arthur Murray Fall Showcase. There were so many great shows, and we only have a limited space in which to display photos at the next event. The dancers that present these shows are the capstone to the events, and they look great printed large!

We have been featuring these dancers for a few years now that we have been covering the events. Now, we wanted to reach out to our social network to get input on which of the photos we should print for display. It was fun to see the votes come in and to see the comments from students, other teachers, and their Facebook friends! In the end, there were 2 clear winners for our first contest. The winners were the posters from the Columbia, Maryland studio, and the Tysons Corner, Virginia studio! The other photos will not go to waste, however. We will print the other studios onto event cards that will hopefully remind dancers to come back to the proofing website to view their photos.

Thanks to everyone that voted, and spread the word of upcoming events through their Facebook! We enjoy making these posters, and we hope that more people were able to view them through the sharing. To see the posters in person, we will display them at the Arthur Murray Spring Freestyles coming up March 28 – 29, 2014 at the Marriott Westfields in Chantilly, VA. After the event, the posters will be going to their respective studios. See you on the dance floor!

Weekend Website Updates – Dance Photography Virginia, DC, MD

Bachata Masters - ©TimeLine Media

There are lots of things going on at the website, Facebook page, and offline for TimeLine Media! Monday is the last day to view photos from the Bachata Masters event that was held in Rockville, MD last November 2, 2013. This was a cold night outside, but a hot night of dancing! The bachata and mambo fans were out in force that night, and it made for some great photos.

On the Facebook page, today is the last day to vote for the favorite studio posters from the DC Area Arthur Murray dance studios. To add your vote to the mix, go to the Facebook page [ http://www.facebook.com/timelinemedia ] and look through the six photos from each of the studios. The 2 collages that receive the most votes will be printed large and displayed at the upcoming Spring Freestyles event. There are definitely 2 front runners, but I will not count the finally tally until tonight. Share the link to get the most votes for your favorite!

Lastly, I am getting all the gear ready for the Baltimore Dancesport Challenge this weekend. We are excited about getting to see more dancing! The organizers and venue at this event are always photographer friendly. We will be taking more action photos of the dancers as they compete, and for package holders, we will be printing one photo from the day for them to take home! It is something new that we are trying for this year. It was the idea of Marielle Pabon, the owner of the event, and we think it will be a great added value for attendees. Stay tuned to the blog to see how it turns out! See you this weekend –

Karl Alzner at Tysons Corner Center | Event Photographer

Last weekend there was an appearance by Karl Alzner, a defenseman for the Washington Capitals at Tysons Corner Center. It was great timing for his appearance as it was a day after he scored a goal in a winning effort by the NHL team.

The appearance was more than just an opportunity to get an autograph. Karl also taught some kids basic stick handling in a setup for shooting. There was a large setup in the middle of the mall with a target for kids to aim practice balls. Karl spent an hour giving as many kids as possible a chance to score a goal.

Slapshot, the mascot for the Capitals was also there signing autographs, and playing goalie in another ball-shooting setup. He was quite a character to photograph, and really brought the personality without even speaking a word! It was nice to see a professional athlete taking time to interact with so many small kids giving them their first chance at hockey. There were a few that definitely had some previous experience, so he gave them some other stick skills to play try before shooting.

After the shooting drills, Karl took an hour to sign autographs. The line was almost out the door! The fans were very patient, and everyone got plenty of time to meet him. It was another smoothly run event. Even with all the parts that had to be setup, the staff at Tysons made sure we had everything we needed. The Capitals marketing team was also very considerate, and helped me setup to get some nice photos of the whole afternoon. It is always great to work with professionals!
