Jo and Claro’s Wedding

For Valentine’s Day, here is a post from Jo and Claro’s Wedding. Previously, I posted about an engagement session I did with them in DC. Luckily, they had as beautiful a wedding day weather as they had for their engagement photos. Firstly, I met the bride at the Hilton in Springfield, VA.

Springfield, Virginia

The bride and her bridesmaids were getting ready at the hotel. Later that day, this hotel would be the site for the reception. I started photographing her family and friends there.

Woodbridge, Virginia

Once everyone in the bridal party was ready, we drove to Woodbridge, Virginia for the ceremony. The rest of their friends and family gathered at Our Lady of Angels Church. Straightaway, the festivities began in full! Of course they were having fun getting ready, but joining everyone else brought lots of energy. Because I grew up seeing Claro’s family often, I had a great time photographing all the activties!

Occoquan, Virginia

After the ceremony, we stopped in Occoquan for some bridal party photos. Since it was on the way to the reception site, we had a convenient stop there. This picturesque little town is a beautiful setting especially in the later afternoon. Then, we headed to the big party!

Hilton Springfield Reception

The ballroom was an appropriate venue for these two. Especially since they had their first date at the restaurant in the same building! Dinner, dancing, and lots of photos – it was an awesome day for photos! Congratulations you two – we wish you the best for the future!

Peak Blossoms – Washington DC Photography

Yes this blog post is very late today. I do have a good reason, though. The cherry blossom trees in Washington, DC are in peak bloom! Being a native northern Virginian, this has been an annual outing for my family for a VERY long time! The earliest photo that I have of my swaddled very well was less than a year after I was born. The crowds were a little less packed that the ones today, but there were already a flood of people walking the Tidal Basin with their best cameras in tow.

I am about the same age today as my mother was in the photo on the left. She still enjoys walking through the blooms, and taking lots of photos! It has never become cliché, and if anything, the event has become more popular than ever. It is inspiring to see so many photographers out there! And I don’t just mean at the peak times in the middle of the day. You have to carve out a spot even an hour before sunrise! That is another testament to digital technology making photography more accessible.

Yes it does look like there is a lot of competition for photographers out there – and there is. For me, though, this is something I would do whether or not this was my main profession. But knowing what people do for photos out there really pushes me to make even better photos! There are just as many visions for capturing images as there are people behind the camera. The tools may be similar, but they can be manipulated in an almost infinite number of ways!

Get out there this weekend before the blooms blow away! They are already starting to fall from the trees as of Friday evening. I have lots of editing to do with the many photos made over the passed few days. I’ll be sure to update the blog as I finish them. Happy Spring!

Workstation Change

This is a strangely personal post today. For the first time in 18 years, I have a new desk! In taking apart the former desk pictured above, and trying to put the new one together, so many things came to mind fumbling, and working with the IKEA directions and tools. This was similar to when I first put the desk together at my apartment in college. I was only halfway done with my undergraduate degree, and I was moving into my first place. My parents, and my girlfriend spent two days putting all the assembly-needed furniture in the apartment. Our thumbs, backs, and arms were so sore getting everything together!

The desk in its first configuration had a small shelf mounted to one side, and I filled it with Biology, Chemistry, and other textbooks. It was a writing desk, so it the only thing that was plugged in on its top was a small desk lamp. It helped me to successfully get that degree, then it travelled back to my parent’s house to become a computer desk – it held two of the old CRT monitors on it’s top with almost no room for writing, and no room for the shelf which was discarded somewhere along the way.

Moving Workspaces

When it was time to move out own my own, the desk came with me. However it only needed to hold one of monitors – I needed more room to write and stack things! This was in the first home that I have ever owned. From the desk, I continued to do lots of homework for a master’s degree, and work that I brought home from my first real-world job. It was here that I also worked on a certificate for photography, and started TimeLine Media.

The photo above was taken just before I took it apart for the last time. It has served me so well, and hope the new desk will do the same. I wonder what the new setup will help me do?
