Baltimore, Maryland

Earlier this month, I photographed Aeren Waters at Qui Piece in Baltimore. This shoot marked another progression in Nerea’s fashion career! Previously I have made images of some of her designs. Colorful purses, bags, and accessories are the main products in her line so far. Being that she was also a colleague from the lab branching out into an art business, I am very supportive of her efforts!

On this occasion, she wanted to get some images in front of the Qui Piece store front. Not only will this location now have some of her pieces for sale, but Nerea also teaches some sewing classes here. It was heartening to see her giving back by teaching others to further their skills in fashion!

Although we met in the early afternoon, I still found some good areas for photos. Given that it was overcast for the day, we had some nice even light on her face. I only popped a little fill flash balanced with ambient for a little lift. Best of luck with Nerea for the new store front!

Arizona National Park

The Grand Canyon is one of the oldest National Parks and a regular stop for vacationers. Earlier this year, we had a chance to tour the par. Of course the magnificent views are what I remember from my first trip there years ago. However, I remember my father saying how impossible it was to capture the views in photos. With this in mind I tried to do my best with my updated skills in photography. By all means, I am not an expert at landscapes. But I still made lots of photos inspired by the magnificent views from the canyon rim.

Sunrise from the Canyon Rim

Since we arrived in the early evening, I planned to get up before the sunrise. A typical photography tip is to get up before the sun to see the sun slowly rise over the horizon. Given that these conditions usually produce the best colors, and having the canyon below, I thought the possibilities for memorable photos was high. Of course my instincts were incorrect! Shortly after the sun started to rise, I found my error. With such a large rift into the ground, the sunlight could not hit the lower elevations until it rose higher in the sky! This is just one small detail that makes this landscape unique. However, it was not long before the sun came out and produced some spectacular views!

Tysons Corner Center

Compared to some of the larger event, there were smaller 2016 Plaza summer events that I photographed. In addition to the Summer Concert Series, there were other weekend days that the Plaza was filled with crowds. Certainly these are also important to show the community building that the Macerich team is doing.

Cuatro De Mayo

The Tysons Fit Club took their meeting outside for one of their workouts. Being close to May 5, they brought in La Sandia to bring out food and drinks for after the workout was completed. In addition, they had a mariachi band to fill the Plaza with music setting the mood for the occasion!

VietFest

A cultural festival celebrating Vietnam and their many residents in the area took over the Plaza. Food, fashions, and shows were some of the highlights of their annual event!
