Middleburg Hunt – Point to Point

Here are some of the photos from last Sunday’s Middleburg Hunt Point to Point. It was drizzling all day even though we had a weatherman on site! The weather did not dampen the spirits of the guests, however. There was plenty of food from some creative tailgates. The judging this year was tough with colorful decorations, and some unique themes. The “Mad Hatter” tailgate was particularly memorable for the costumes and the unique bottles of “potions”.

I also enjoyed seeing the best bonnet and best tie competitions in the afternoon. In addition to the setting, the dress also makes the event. Of course throwing a little competition in there makes the contestants go for the prize!

But the highlight for me is still the horse racing. I did not get as many shots of the racing this year since many of the finishes were too good to miss! The thundering sound of the horses coming to the end of the race had me riveted to the action. Here are some of my favorites from just after the races ended. Enjoy!

American Star Ball – getting ready

In a few weeks, we’ll be going up to Atlantic City, NJ for the American Star Ball. This will be our 4th time covering this event as the official photographers. This year, the event is under new ownership, Amanda and Ilya Reyzin. I was happy that they wanted to continue working with us at the event. We try to work with competition organizers to get them the best images of dancers and venues so that they have images to promote their event and give dancers dynamic images to take home from the event.

If we are a part of a decision for dancers whether to attend an event, I would be very proud. When we got to events, we are asked our upcoming schedules, so I hope at least some are tracking with what we are doing. I’m sure there will be lots of changes with the event this year, but I am excited about getting the chance to cover them for everyone that plans to attend this year. Last Day – That’s Dancing Winter Showcase

Today, the photos from the That’s Dancing Winter Showcase from December 2012 are expiring from the proofing website today! Thanks to all of you that have visited the website to view the photos from this event. We are looking forward to covering their Summer Showcase this coming June.

This Sunday, we went out to the Middleburg Hunt Point to Point races in Middleburg, VA. Last year was the first time we were invited to this beautiful event in the some of the most beautiful country that Virginia has to offer. Glenwood Park allows for a very open view of all the races. Not only is the racing action exciting, but there is a lot of activities in and around the track. You can go to the paddock to see the horses as their trainers and jockeys prepare them for races. You can browse the vendors that are in attendance for food and apparel appropriate for spending a nice day outside.

Most of all, you can view the spread of tail gates that are placed for competition around the perimeter of the track. There are beautiful displays and delicious food and drink arranged in traditional (served out of the back of a vehicle) and non-traditional categories. Last year did not have a cloud in the sky, this year was a little rainier. It did not dampen spirits around the track, and I tried to make some nice photos. While I edit those, here are some from last year’s Point to Point. Enjoy!
