A couple of weeks ago, TEDxTysons asked if I could make some photos of the State Theater for them. Similarly to the very first shoot, I ever did for them, Ashwood and I met at the venue for their upcoming main event. In contrast to the soaring heights of a tall commercial building, we were at the State Theater in Falls Church.

While we were on site, we had the stage managers set the lighting. As can be seen here, the saturated red and purple colors flooded the stage as they will during their event. With this in mind, these images would be used as teasers for ‘Legacy’ scheduled for this coming November.

State Theater – Exterior

Outside, the theater set the lettering on the marquee saying that the show was sold out. Afterwards, I had retouchers change this to have the date of the show. Thus same images can be used for 2 different uses! This was a fun project to work on. I hope it works to pack the house in November – join us!

Food & – TEDxTysons

Last month, I photographed another event at 1st Stage – Food & – a TEDxTysons salon. In like fashion, this was a new venue for me to photograph. I emphatically appreciate the opportunity that Ashwood, Stacy, and Josh have given me in covering their events! Not only are they a fun photographic challenge, but it is a privilege to be in the room for these talks.

Speakers – Food & – TEDxTysons

Similar to other salons in spaces that are purpose-built for productions, this was a great venue for photos. Even though the theater lights can look painfully bright, cameras will take as much light as they can take! Moreover 1st Stage is built with a staircase through the middle of the room. New Target – TEDxTysons

Last week I photographed New Target – TEDxTysons salon at Vinson Hall. Given that this retirement community caters to military families, it was fitting setting. As a matter of fact, all the speakers, and the hosts are veterans. Moreover their talks dealt with issues that military veterans are particularly familiar. In addition, there are many experiences that can translate to solving new challenges outside of active duty.

Speakers – New Target – TEDxTysons

Once the salon started, a military band played to open the event! As can be seen the video team really worked hard to bring some visual interest to the back of the stage. For this purpose, they hung some string lights from the ceiling behind the speakers. Additionally, color spotlights set a dark, saturated tones in red and blue. Afterwards the after-show reception was an opportunity to meet the speakers one on one. Please go to the TEDxTysons website to see all the photos and videos from the evening!
