Fort Myer, Virginia

Last year, I photographed another event at Fort Myer, a 2019 Retirement Ceremony, for an Army retiree. Of course, this was a referral from a previous client, and I felt much more comfortable covering the day. For one thing, I went directly to Conmy Hall for the ceremony. Although I had not met the retiree before the ceremony, I was able to text her to get an idea of when she would be receiving her medal and flag. Moreover, her husband also made sure I was getting all the information on when her group would be presented to the audience.

Being that this was the second time I attended, I was impressed again with the professionalism of the soldiers during this presentation. Having such large groups marching in formation so precisely is amazing to watch! Also, they perform traditional military songs from the Revolutionary War to the present. Finally, it was heartening to see how proud family members are of their relatives retiring after successful Army careers. They served their country, while raising a growing family. Best of luck for what comes next!

Tysons Corner Center

Earlier this month I photographed the Snappy Hour and Wounded Warrior Project event at the Santa HQ in Tysons Corner Center. The evening following the opening ceremony of the set was reserved for the Wounded Warrior Project. Having this time specified for injured veterans and their families was very accommodating so they could spend some time in the set without a crowd waiting in line for them.

Snappy Hour

Another event that week was the Snappy Hour held at the Santa HQ set. In contrast to the kids that are usually the visitors, this event focused on adults looking to network with drinks and eats from Earl’s. Furthermore with Santa hanging around, it was perfect for ‘snapping’ some Instagrams!

Vinson Hall – McLean, VA

Last week I photographed New Target – TEDxTysons salon at Vinson Hall. Given that this retirement community caters to military families, it was fitting setting. As a matter of fact, all the speakers, and the hosts are veterans. Moreover their talks dealt with issues that military veterans are particularly familiar. In addition, there are many experiences that can translate to solving new challenges outside of active duty.

Speakers – New Target – TEDxTysons

Once the salon started, a military band played to open the event! As can be seen the video team really worked hard to bring some visual interest to the back of the stage. For this purpose, they hung some string lights from the ceiling behind the speakers. Additionally, color spotlights set a dark, saturated tones in red and blue. Afterwards the after-show reception was an opportunity to meet the speakers one on one. Please go to the TEDxTysons website to see all the photos and videos from the evening!
