New Camera (s)

I recently converted my first digital SLR camera to be sensitive to infrared light from LifePixel (www.lifepixel.com). It seemed like camera surgery to me, so I let them do all the intricate work. The results are very interesting and have added another layer to my photography exploration. I have experimented this winter, but I cannot wait for the leaves to come back on the trees!

This is image above is before the conversion. Being that the sensor is now sensitive to infrared light, you can see a red tint over the image. This is due to the placement of an infrared filter over the color sensor. In effect this shifts the sensitivity of the sensor to the wavelengths of light just beyond the range of visible light. Following some post processing here is the image after color reversal:

Again, this creates an image that is a little more pleasing to the eye but a little different from the standard color range. The grass especially glows a bright white tone and the sky turns a deep blue. As can be seen in further images, this works better in some situations that others. Overall, I need to adjust my previsualization when making photos with this converted camera!

Happy New Year!

I miss 2007 already with new year just a few days old. The Hokies fell short at the Orange Bowl, and the Redskins just ended their up and down and up season with a loss last night. With this in mind, the sports fandom closes down for another year. Now, I start going through my photos from the holiday season.

Obviously Christmas decor donned on walls and in the background make for pleasing indicators of the time of year. While we do not have many at home, our relatives go out of their way to deck their halls. So, I take advantage of them when it fits well for the photos.

Aside from the sports, everything else seems to be going well! Family is happy and healthy, and I’m hopeful for progressing in my new career in 2008. Taking a page from my cousin Renato, I will attempt to update my blog more often to keep track of where I am, and where I’m going. So here are some pics form Christmas in D.C. and New Year’s celebrations.

Happy New Year!!!

Wedding pictures?

Considering I am trying to be a wedding photographer, I should put some examples of my work in that area. Well, here is a photo that is not from a wedding, per se, but is relevant to the subject. It is a shot that has been done numerous times. However, it was relatively new to me as I browsed many wedding photographer websites. You can see differing examples on the Internet from other photographers, but I had to try it for myself. The Bible passage seemed to fit, and the rings stayed just where I wanted them! I would give credit to the creative /mathematical/artistic mind that saw this first if I only knew…

All in all, this is just one photo in an entire collection of wedding pictures. Although the day is fleeting, these images have the opportunity to stand the test of time. Prior to delving into weddings, I heard a photographer say something profound about the craft. He said, wedding photography is the first heirloom for a new family. I never thought of it that way! It is for this reason that these are the first things people look for when leaving a burning home. It is one of the most important possessions they will have!
