Tysons Corner Center

Last month, I photographed the 2018 First Responders Day held on the Plaza at Tysons Corner Center. This is a particularly favorite event for me to cover both a number of reasons. At first, the vehicles that they display are authentic and on the cutting edge of technology. Also, talking with the service people is inspiring from their passion for their work, and the goal of making our community more peaceful and safe. While walking through I am educated on the technologies that they employ while on the job. Of course the helicopter is a big attraction with the impact a flying vehicle makes overhead. However, fire trucks, bomb-handling robots, and police cruisers will always attract questions. On this occasion, I connected with the Vienna Police Department. Hearing about the events that they plan throughout the year, I may be covering those for them since photos are an important part of their community outreach. Hopefully more of those will be on the blog soon!

Tysons Corner Center

Last week, I covered the opening of the Change It Up Pop Up at Tysons Corner Center. Presented by the Hair Cuttery, this was a color-overload activation at the mall! Since the pop up is only open until September 3, there was a packed house with pre-registered guests that were there on opening night. Hair Cuttery founder Dennis Ratner was in attendance on this occasion before they bring this to other locations around the country. Because the Rattner Companies is based in Tysons, and the first location for the salon was in nearby Springfield, it makes sense this was their first stop. As can be seen in the photos, this was the most colorful pop up I have photographed at the mall! Instagrammers should take advantage while it is still open.

2018 Summer Concert Series – Tysons Corner Center

The Plaza – Tysons, VA

The last two months of Fridays were the dates for the 2018 Summer Concert Series. Overall, I had another great summer of images! On account of getting lucky with the weather on most days, all the performances were out on the Plaza. Mandisa had some sprinkles, however, her dynamic presentation and enthusiastic WGTS crowd did not damper the show. During the Ryan Cabrera concert, a recently married couple danced on the stage to their wedding song live! In contrast to the big productions, some of the smaller setups still pumped out a lot of sound. Great Big World surprisingly had a large impact on earbuds! Then the retro sounds of O-Town (a funny statement just reading it) brought back some good memories from the height of the Boy-Band era.

Matt Nathanson

Sidewalk Prophets

Thanks to the marketing team from Macerich – Tysons Corner Center. They helped me get all access to areas before and during the concerts. Surely the large crowds make it easy to show the growing community built out on the Plaza. I look forward to more events this Fall!
