Tysons Corner Center

In the last month of 2018, I photographed the BrandBox Grand Opening at Tysons Corner Center. Since it is the start of a new year, I thought the first post should be about this new space opened at the mall. BrandBox is a new retail concept offered at some Macerich properties specifically designed for ease of start up. Being that these spaces are more flexible than traditional spaces, they create a nice template for a retailer to use.

On this occasion, the first set of BrandBox stores were opened. Urbanstems, DKNY, Nectar, Interior Define, Naadam, and Winky Lux are the first teanants at the opening. Overall, these are very clean, open stores to walk through. As a result of this design, visibility is very high for shoppers passing through. As can be seen, this visibility creates an impactful first impression for brands that may not be immediately familiar. Undoubtedly this could be a great stepping step for retailers into the Tysons market. From the photos, I enjoyed the contrast that each space use to stand out. Although they had similar dimensions, and basic structures, their unique store designs really made them stand out.

Tysons Corner Center

After all of the activities of Christmas, I wanted to get some 2018 Holiday photos at Tysons Corner Center at blue hour. When I go through the photos in my portfolio, I do not shoot at this time very often. Wheras my shoots are usually inside during this time, I am not usually outside with an opportunity to get photos. It is with this in mind that I went out specifically during twilight to make these photos. Although the marketing team did not have any shoots for me, I still thought this was the best setting to test shoot. It was after Christmas, but the 2018 Holiday decorations were still up on the Plaza.

Lensball

In addition to going out at an unusual time of day, I also tested a new piece of kit that I received as a gift! My in-laws gave me a Lensball which produced a fisheye effect when you point your camera lens through this middle. With the lights still on the tree on the Plaza, I brought out the ultra-clear ball for some unique photos. Happy holidays!

2018 Santa Breakfast

Tysons Corner Center

Christmas Eve is the perfect day to look back on the 2018 Santa Breakfast at Tysons Corner Center. While parents were in the middle of the holiday season, Santa gave them a little break before starting a Sunday of shopping. Similarly to last year, Santa arrived by the train to the 3rd Floor Food Court. While there were some kids in line to get balloon animals and face painting, many came to see the show after his arrival. Those Funny Little People performed some songs and dances, then Santa greeted some kids and families. I stayed with Santa to get one photo of each family as quickly as I could! If you are looking for your images, you can find them at the Tysons Corner Center Facebook page. This is always the busiest event at the end of the year, and really gets me excited to finish my shopping!
