Tysons Corner Center

Since we are starting Fall, I wanted to post about the 2019 3rd Quarter Media posted in and around Tysons Corner Center. Similarly to earlier in the year, it is nice to highlight some of the changes that keeps the mall a vibrant and effective showcase area. Since it is harder to plan, the outside photos of the pylon signs I was happy to make. The Route 7 specifically had a sunset shining through the space behind the sign and through the trees nicely. For photography geeks, having a really small aperture will create the nice rays from the sun.

Inside, the mall were new hanging and digital banners. Since Halloween is coming soon, the signs for American Scream projected very nicely on the digital board. Having the contrast between the dark background and the light text really made this one pop out especially from farther away. Fanta also had a digital tie-in with codes printed on their face. When you pointed your smartphone at the ad, they would come to life with more dynamic content! Surely this shows what it possible with handheld technology. Perhaps this would be something that photographers could take advantage of with all of their images!

Urbanspace, Tysons Galleria

Last week I photographed a Tysons Partnership charette at the Urbanspace in the Galleria. Next year, they are marking 10 years since their creation with attention to making Tysons the next great city. Although I have only been covering close to 3 years of their events, I think they do a phenomenal job at this. Especially considering the different entities that attend their events, they foster so many important conversations.

The Urbanspace at the Galleria has enormous west-facing windows. As a photo studio, this is ideal! Whenever anyone asks me for photo tips for faces, the first thing I tell them is to look for open shade. Similarly to the fire station for the Shoes4Kids lunches, this space gives the same quality of light. With the large daylight streaming in, and a tall ceiling above, you can find nice light on the face. Additionally, the interior will fall darker and make faces pop out of the frame. Easy photographing, easy editing – enjoy!

2019 3rd Quarter Headshots

Fairfax, Virginia

This post is about more sessions in the studio for 2019 3rd Quarter Headshots. Firstly in this set, Kelli recently completed her Ph.D. Correspondingly, she is looking to start a new teaching position. Overall, I am impressed with the dedication and work ethic for those that can complete such lofty academic goals! I hope that these new headshots help convey her new position as she starts her next opportunity.

Brandon is another business owner that I met networking in northern Virginia. He has great stories about growing up as a standout basketball player, and playing in the NCAA tournament! Since then he has worked many positions in the roofing and siding industry. In fact, he learned so much from his experience that he is now starting his own company! Hopefully these will help him with a successful launch.

Finally, I need to put these photos of Laurie from a previous studio session. At this time, she was looking for images that she could use for her business coaching website. Afterwards, she asked if these could be used for her upcoming book jackets. Of course, I said it would great to use for those! This is the first time my images were used for hard cover publication. I felt honored that she chose to use them this way!
