Last weekend’s 2016 Spring Freestyles photos are now ready to view! Another Arthur Murray DC event from our home studios. After the event, I edited and tried to sort these by studio. In the event I made some mistakes, please let me know. Here is the link to the photos:

Tysons, Virginia Ballroom

The Hilton McLean in Tysons, VA was the venue for this event. Since they have settled in on this location for the last couple of year, setup was easier for us. Following our setup from the last time, our photography lighting setup still worked for the first Arthur Murray event of the year.

Thank you to all of the Arthur Murray dancers and staff. Surely this was not the normal setup for a Freestyles event all being on one day. In this situation, the floor seemed more crowded, and the schedule compressed. However, everyone made the best of it, and I was pleased with the photos!

2016 River City Photos Released

Last Saturday was the 2016 River City Ballroom Dance Competition. Despite having a packed photography schedule last weekend, we got help to cover everything. Compared to last year, the ballroom was full of dancers and spectators! Following the event, we came home, edited, and sorted the photos for you:

Whenever we get the invitation from Veronica to attend their event, we get happy to start the ballroom dance year. As can be seen in some of these photos, the ballroom was very full this year! Certainly Veronica, Lee and the Simply Ballroom studio has been working hard to grow their event. Seeing that new faces attend along with consistent attendees is encouraging! Without a doubt they are increasing the awareness of partner dancing. With this purpose in mind, they are expanding their influence and elevating dancing in the Richmond area.

Foggy Great Falls

Inversion over the Falls

Late last year, a thick foggy morning motivated me to get out of the house. Landscape or nature photography is not my forte. However, a foggy Great Falls has been on my list to shoot for a while. Unlike other areas, we generally do not have very foggy days often. On this occasion, the warm morning temperature created a thick inversion over the entire northern Virginia area. So, I got in my car and looked for a place to make some photos.

When I arrived at Great Falls Park, I knew that this would be a perfect morning for photos. Walking through the parking lot, and the park trails, the fog was still hanging in the air. I was excited about getting to the edge of the falls however, the walk through the park was just as inspiring.

Finally arriving at the edge of the falls, I propped my camera on a tripod. Though it was not very bright with the thick fog and early morning light, I put on an ND filter. This smoothed out the motion of the water, and made for some nice prints later!
