Washington, DC

Stemming from a referral from another photographer, I covered the Carahsoft 2019 Gov Con in Washington, DC. On this occasion, their event was held at the Grand Hyatt, a hotel fitting of the name. Attendees would be in the conference center, attending lectures and breakout sessions during the day. For the most part, I would be outside of these sessions creating headshots at a step and repeat.

Since the booth was a little slow on traffic at the beginning of the day, I went into the conference center to see the opening remarks. Of course, I am familiar with so many of the Adobe products, and these attendees would be discussing their newest tools for government agencies.

For the most part, I was outside at the step and repeat. The background was branded for carahsoft, and Adobe the two sponsors for the event. When people would come by, I offered them an updated headshot. Not only was this a little out of my comfort zone, but it is immediately broke the ice. The subsequent quick headshot session was much less awkward to go through comparatively! As I warmed up to the situation, I had a nice long line of people that wanted to get new portraits made. I ended up having a great time, and I hope I made a good impression for carahsoft and their guests!

Quarantine 1 – Staying Busy

Staying Home

This quaratine time has been a tremendous change to our daily life. Everyone I am in contact with is working from home. Video conference calls are a daily event. Thankfully in this high tech time, everything is working!

What are you doing during this time that we are forced to stay at home? On one hand, I am working very similarly to how I did before. On the other, I have no photo shoots or events to plan. With this in mind, I have turned to working on my business. While I work at home, I have been listening to many podcasts and YouTube channels of other creatives. Similarly, the content has moved in parallel directions. There are tips on keeping productive, on cleaning up your contracts, on honing photography skills inside etc.

In contrast, I am not looking for things to do while staying at home. If I am successful with my efforts, my blog will hopefully look a lot more full! It has been an aspiration of mine to get back to blogging which I did more regularly. Seeing that it was a great way to document the photos shoots, and to remember what the environment was like when I made the photos.

Given that I enjoyed reviewing these posts, I want to go back to old events, and put them on the blog. At the same time, I will attempt to keep current with the posts as well. The photos from this Quaratine 1 post are from some of the daily walks. Every day we are taking walks, and bring a camera with me. These were taken with my first DSLR camera – the Nikon D100. It has a very low megapixel count, and I converted it to only capture infrared light.

So far it has been enough to capture something different when repeatedly passing the same areas over the last month! I hope you are staying safe at home. If you are getting around to do things that you were putting off until you had time to get to it, please let me know. Maybe there is something I should be doing that I have not thought to do yet.

Today is the last day to view photos from the 2019 Asheville Dance Classic! As the last posting from this event, I am showing some of my favorite photos from the Professional show. To demonstrate their skill, Gabriela Sevillano and Dmitry Solomakha performed 4 dances that had the entire room on their feet after each one!

This was another fun challenge for me to photograph. These two were amazingly quick in their direction changes, and sharp in their lines. Whenever her long hair would flail in the air, I let the shutter fly to try to catch it mid flight!

Asheville, NC

We really enjoyed our trip down to Asheville. Since both of us were able to make it this year, we had time to go around and see the downtown area, one of the arboretums, and some of the nice restaurants. In any case, this is a place we would like to explore more. Moreover we texted family to say that we should plan a trip down here so we can see even more. Thanks again for visiting the site to see the photos, and we hope to see you at the next Asheville Dance Classic this fall!
